Happy #iPadOS 26.5 release day, fellow #SafariExtension devs! It fixes the bug introed in 26.4 causing Safari to ALWAYS crash if users tried to open ANY extension's popup while using Compact Tabs. Imagine this had already shipped in 26.4.1/.2: we'd have missed out on so many unwarranted 1★ reviews!

"Das Gewicht der Welt" runs tomorrow at Cinecitta in Nuremberg, 11 AM - with a subsequent discussion with the director and one of the protagonists as part of their movie tour. Probably not an easy film to watch, but an important one. I'll be there & look forward to the film and the discussion. 1/2

#TimeMachine on #macOS 26.5 still failed trying to back up to my Samba server. The fix was to remove fruit:time machine max size=… from the share's configuration. As an alternative one can use tmutil to enforce a quota: tmutil destinationinfo sudo tmutil setquota [destination uuid] [quota-in-gb]

TIL the S.M.A.R.T. power on hours of the drives in a rented server have now lapsed at least twice (integer overflowing at 65.536 hours), meaning they've run for ~132K hours (~15 years) non-stop. 🤯

020
Felix Schwarz @felixschwarz.bsky.social · 31/01/2026
110
Felix Schwarz @felixschwarz.bsky.social · 31/01/2026
Bild: Temperatur (rot), Taupunkt (dunkelblau), Spread (hellblau) 4/6
110
Felix Schwarz @felixschwarz.bsky.social · 31/01/2026
110
Felix Schwarz @felixschwarz.bsky.social · 31/01/2026
221
Felix Schwarz @felixschwarz.bsky.social · 31/01/2026

I had assumed that by not providing an OS or version number for deprecation, I had found a way to silence the compiler warning. Since that's not the case and it's just moving the warning, I'm deleting the original post. Sorry for the confusion. 2/2

After checking the privacy info available in Xcode and settings in the ChatGPT account, it at least seems like it should also be possible to use an account and still not have your code used for training their models: bsky.app/profile/feli...

Presumably though, "your ChatGPT account settings […] will apply" when signing in from Xcode - so that, if you turned off the option "Improve the model for everyone" in your ChatGPT account, it also /should/ not use your data for training its models.
Intelligence in Xcode & Privacy

Using ChatGPT in Xcode Without an Account

If you enable ChatGPT in Xcode without being signed in to a ChatGPT account, only the data described in the Data Provided to Third-Party Models and Data Provided to ChatGPT in Xcode sections above will be sent to ChatGPT. OpenAl will not receive any data tied to your Apple Account. OpenAl must process your data solely for the purpose of fulfilling it and not store your request or any responses it provides, unless required under applicable laws. OpenAl also must not use your request to improve or train its models.

Using ChatGPT in Xcode with a ChatGPT Account

You can choose to create a ChatGPT account or sign in to an existing account. If you are a ChatGPT subscriber, you will be able to access paid features from your Xcode experience.

When you are signed in, your ChatGPT account settings and OpenAl's data privacy policies will apply. This means OpenAl may log your request, attachments, and session history, and use this data to train or improve their models.
