🍷🌊🌕

A pale green illustration of a merman looking at the moon. His body curls and coils on a cradle of foam-covered rocks; coral and smooth waves below. Long black curls of hair drape down his back and on the rocks. He's looking up, holding a small kiddush cup in one hand and a falling star in the other. Breaking waves curl around the moon like an embrace. Coming from the cup in his hand is the initial stage of an embryo. In in the upper right corner is the personification of the moon, dropping down stars to him.

Daniel Rallis from @saint-vagrant.bsky.social 's @shortboxcomicsfair.bsky.social comic, THE SOLAR SYSTEM, aka one of the best comics I've ever read

Dr. Daniel Rallis from Seosamh Dáire's comic THE SOLAR SYSTEM for the Shortbox Comics Fair. He is sitting with his head down, hands clasped, elbows on his knees and backlit under the sun, breaking out from behind a cloud.

Two digital illustrations I made back in 2020, inspired by the story of Waitaiki, the mother of pounamu (Aotearoa New Zealand greenstone).

"Tamāhua Pursues Poutini," Digital Illustration. The work is split vertically into two parts. The top half depicts Tamāhua scanning the horizon in search of Waitaki, his wife, and Poutini, the taniwha who kidnapped her. The bottom half depicts Poutini grasping Waitaki as he swims away from Tamāhua. The two halves are divided by a row of six different stones: (from left to right) obsidian, basalt, argillite, flint, bowenite, greenstone.

"Waitaiki, Turned to Stone" Digital Illustration. Depicts Waitaiki in the river bed, her final resting place, after being changed into Poutini's essence - pounamu (greenstone).
