King James Version says Thou shalt not kill. But people do like to translate differently for the outcome they want.

Well this is horrifying. What happens when the rapists and abusers are running the place. Great work by the author.

“get tore up from the floor up.”? Some very odd wording in there, and they don’t seem to have many actual plans nailed down. Oh and come to the ceremony, a long drive out of town, but you can’t watch it, no one can.

My book on historic rabbit warrens in England is published on 13th Nov by Liverpool Uni Press and I'm pleased to have received my advance copies. The perfect Xmas gift for any rabbit warren-obsessed nerd, of which there are no doubt many such people. #landscapearchaeology #rabbits #medievalsky

Indigenous people travelled from across the Salish Sea to spend time with the woolly dog pelt at MOA before it became open to be viewed by the public. “It’s historical that the woolly dog arrived back home.” Story by Santana Dreaver, co-published with The Narwhal indiginews.com/features/sal...

After more than a century, this Salish woolly dog pelt has returned to 'B.C.'
The Coast and Interior Salish companions were carefully bred for thousands of years, then they went extinct — the only known pelt is at MOA until next August

Taking a bike on the ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles used to be a fun day trip. Cyclists would go up Hurricane ridge for the hill climb, stop for ice cream and lunch afterwards. I spent some happy weekends in Port Townsend, for their Kinetic Sculpture race. Not recently, not again anytime soon.

The proto-Effin’ Birds was my Tumblr “Swear Trek”. It opened a lot of doors for me and I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. I don’t have plans to revive it (one daily comic is enough work), just wanted to thank it for getting me here on this 60th anniversary of Star Trek.

I assumed that per Turing eventually there would be a chatbot created that would mimic intelligence well enough that people would be fooled. Don't know how many of us foresaw that people would start truly believing, not that the output was intelligent, but that they were somehow the authors of it.

I hope Americans realize that Canadians emphatically do not distinguish between blue and red America. No one is feeling forgiving and saying “oh well he’s just an unpopular president whom most Americans oppose.” Because they see just how little anyone is doing to fight him.

I always remember when the Queen of the North ferry sank in BC’s Inside Passage. One couple were moving and had all the things too valuable to trust the moving company with in a UHaul. They survived, but their dearest things are at the bottom of the sea.

The situation in Haiti is terrifying. On Sunday, 150 gunmen swept down on a town to kill, rape, loot, and burn. 22 people were executed in a churchyard. 52 were taken hostage. Stephen Miller mockingly says Haiti is safe and ICE just sent its second deportation flight this month; with kids on board.
They arrived in silence, under cover of darkness, heavily armed as they surrounded the town and moved through Kenscoff’s rugged terrain and towering forests in the mountains above the Haitian capital. Numbering around 150, the gunmen swept through several locations as they made their way toward the center of the town, opening fire on resident who tried to flee. At least 13 people were shot and killed as the gunmen ran through downtown, according to an account by the United Nations human rights office. As more than 50 others sought refuge in L’Arche de la Nouvelle Alliance, a Protestant church that had been sheltering people already displaced by the violence, the gunmen pursued them. When they arrive, they forced residents from the church and executed 22 of them in its courtyard. A dozen others were killed behind the sanctuary. The attackers didn’t just stop there. Before withdrawing from downtown, an area encompassing City Hall and a Haiti National Police substation, they abducted at least 52 people, including a mother and her five children, as well as another mother and her infant. Children and elderly who could not run were killed inside their homes. Others were burned alive after gunmen set at least a dozen houses on fire, witnesses told the National Human Rights Defense Network. The attackers also shot horses and other livestock inside the rural enclave.

Agreed. Just today it’s the news of cancelling the protected (legal!) status of Haitians in the US, ordering them out immediately, and just dropping plane loads of them back in Haiti that’s making me ill.

“This is a distraction from the Epstein files” strikes me as magical thinking, along the lines of “just wait for the Muller report, then he’s toast.” He won’t be toast, even when/if shown to be guilty of the worst. Meanwhile the world is burning and the best sort of American liberals are fiddling.

We are a broken nation. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians were living and working legally, paying taxes, and contributing. Haiti remains wholly unsafe. But Trump hates Haitians, and the White House wanted videos of Black people in chains, so they stripped them of status and turned on the cameras.

You have to either run the prompt again (roll of the dice) or edit it in another program like Photoshop. It’s not editable text, and there’s no font to type it the same way with different words. Some programs like Midjourney will let you isolate a specific area to change, but still, crap shoot.
