Our car starts beeping if it senses a person up front sans seatbelt. Because of this, I now keep Cora’s seat perpetually buckled. When I am out, she assumes surveillance position in the driver’s seat. When I return, she slips under the seatbelt. Because that’s how we ride. ❤️

For newly minted doctorates, names are tough. Should you use first names? Or stick to Dr? Talk about perilous waters. This is a handy solution. #HiddenCurriculum

The first time you email someone, do not address them by their first name. If they respond by signing their email with a first name only, then it’s reasonably safe to call them by their first name.

Writing a letter of reference for someone? Or (gasp) drafting for someone who’s writing for you? If you haven’t seen this graphic on avoiding gender bias, read it. Ref letters are broadly biased in both major and seemingly tiny ways. The bias is avoidable once you’re aware.
