Yes, the problem is not the economics, it's finding good, trustworthy managers and changing the ofwat regulatory system, probably remove those so have been 'asleep at the wheel' It has to be doable though

Agreed, but rights against the directors I think, not the government,? I don't know any details of contracts when the water companies were privatised, but if the govt gave guarantees, even in the case of mismanagement by the directors, I'd say that was a very big mistake!!

Is there something special about water companies? If they were a local grocery store they'd just be bankrupt and creditors get whatever value can be extracted from assets/directors?

Those repairs have to be done. Either by a private company charging higher prices, which cost us all through our bills... Or by government, who would also have to raise the money, either by bills or by taxes then any 'profit' goes to the government and not foreign investors....why not do it?

Ah, ok thanks for clarifying. But do people *think* it is a solution and so stop worrying as much about climate change? I do follow a number of climate scientists and try to keep up with the science and it's predictions.

We have been pumping CO2 into the atmosphere on an industrial scale for well over 100 years on a global scale. Given the immediacy of the threat we faced to expect a nascent technology to be able to remove even a small fraction of it in time to be a solution is fanciful

🧵 You've heard the one sided attack, but the right wing rags or the wreckers working internally don't get the final say. It's time to speak out.

🧵 Since I announced that I was standing to become Deputy Leader of the Green Party, I have been subjected to a sustained series of allegations, complaints, leaks and personal attacks. Some have been explicitly racist and Islamophobic.

It didn't stop when I was elected.
I have tried not to respond to every allegation. I've tried to be patient, trust the proper processes and let the evidence speak for itself.
But there comes a point when you have to look at the pattern.
In early August, allegations were made about the Special Responsibility Allowance allocated to me by the Leeds Green Group.
The Head of Democratic Services looked at it. The Office of the City Solicitor looked at it. Both confirmed that the Green Group had acted properly.
The allegations continued.
Now Leeds City Council's Internal Audit team has completed a further review. We have received confirmation that:
"The payment for the Special Responsibility Allowance (Opposition Group Officer Holder) has been made by the council in accordance with normal practice, and that the council has discharged its role appropriately."
