Agreed - @kellybarnhill.bsky.social, this is the perfect time for self-promotion. It’s well-deserved! We loved The Girl Who Drank the Moon.

Another piece of evidence that the ICE operations are about racism, not law and order. This story and others in the article are heartbreaking.
Rosa walked into the Whipple Federal Building, the headquarters of ICE in Minnesota, on Jan. 23 with her husband, their 6-year-old daughter and the paperwork they needed for a routine check-in. Friends had warned Rosa not to go to the meeting because many people never returned, but Rosa's husband reassured her: "We have paperwork," she remembers him saying. After sitting in a waiting room for eight hours, Rosa said, three agents entered. They placed handcuffs on her husband, informed the family they would be separated, and whisked her husband out the door.
Then, the agents ushered Rosa and her daughter in and out of hallways and holding cells, on and off airplanes. They spent the night on the floor of a room. Rosa had no idea where they were. Her daughter kept asking where her dad was. Neither of them could stop crying.

But this headline goes even further. The editor assigns agency only to the victim. It sounds like it was the bicyclist (agent) who hurt the car door (victim). The equivalent headline for a stabbing would be “Person Who Struck Pointy End of Knife Dies.” 5/x

Now that more and more Americans are rallying around immigrants, the GOP is spinning their Wheel of Scapegoats again.

Is this targeted immigration enforcement to round up the worst of the worst? ICE rounded up hundreds of people, subjected them to violence, sorted them into “perceived immigration status” -- but don’t worry, no children were zip-tied or hit with rubber bullets, er…well, no YOUNG children were. 😱
The FBI said it declines to comment on potential or pending litigation. An FBI spokesperson initially said no restraints or rubber bullets were used on children but later amended that statement, replacing "children" with "young children," according to The Associated Press.

I’m beyond excited that the 2026 Climate Action Framework is released. Now more than ever, we need accelerated state and local climate leadership to build a healthy future for our children. Let’s goooo! www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/ne...
According to Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Commissioner Katrina Kessler, if the state implements only the current local and federal policies,
Minnesota will cut emissions by 28% by 2030 and 39% by 2050. That falls short of the goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, Kessler said.
"We need to do more. We need to move faster," she said.

ICE is here in Minnesota to bring “law and order.”
Sherk and Kuhlman said they brought the mother's immigration paperwork with them and asked to be allowed to take her and her children back to the family's home since they had the documentation to prove the family's lawful presence in the U.S.
They said they learned a judge had also issued an order requiring the mother and her children not be deported.

Someone on FB responded to the Chamber’s post with this summary
As a teacher, I would encourage my students to put this into thier own words to check for understanding:
Big Business is taking credit for MN being awesome. Bad things are happeinging. Big Business wants you to think they care. Big Business talked to some powerful people.
There are 'things' 'we' can do in the name of 'progress'.
Yesterday something bad happened.
Someone needs to calm down. Someone needs ot fix something.
Our ancestors made Minnesota strong and vibrant. MN Business Leaders will do the same. Big Business calls for cooperation among all leaders so that we can all go back to work selling things and making money.
Do I understand that correctly?

It immediately made me think of the wall in the St Paul mayor’s office that has photos of every mayor that has served since 1850 - 53 of them. I used to go there weekly for a meeting during Chris Coleman’s tenure. At that time, all the images were of white men. 2/x

A pet peeve in this article is that former Rep. Winkler falls into the trap of portraying urban people and their concerns as less genuine/practical/valid than those of the *real* folks of small town/rural America, in this case, Wisconsin. The use of “most people” in this context gets me.
Her was not as "progressive and impractical," Winkler said, as some expected her to be as a woman of color who represents an urban district, in part because of her upbringing in small-town Wisconsin."She has a practical, pragmatic
understanding of how most people live and what their lives are like," Winkler said.

I keep (naively) thinking she will come out with a clear position on the Summit project. She’s had plenty of time to learn more, it’s occurring in her House district and she lives on Summit Ave. Yet her pitch is that she will dig into the details to get things done. Seems odd.
During recent debates, Her has said she wants to learn more about the proposed Summit Avenue Regional Bike Trail, and thinks the debate over the plan has unnecessarily pitted cyclists against Summit Avenue homeowners.

They are planning to add more fluorescent to the existing fluorescent and maybe blinky lights. But that might be too spendy. To be fair, they plan to do more later. When they do, I hope they make plans based on actual data and sound recommendations rather than things they “are hearing.“ / end
New reflective sheeting will be applied to existing signs denoting the crosswalk on Mitchell Road at Chestnut Drive to improve visibility, said Eden Prairie Public Works Director Robert Ellis.
The fluorescent yellow material also will be applied to sign posts to help them stand out.
Plans also call for a new sign to warn northbound drivers on Mitchell of the upcoming crosswalk at Chestnut, to be installed in the near future. The crosswalk connects a neighborhood with Pheasant Woods Park.
"We can do this now and come back with options for long-term considerations," Ellis told the City Council last week. "We are hearing visibility may be lacking,"

It is preferable that we build for safety and prevent blood being spilled in the first place. But here we are. According to the article, what problem is the Public Works Director addressing immediately? Is it speed/road design? No, dear reader, it is not. ✨Visibility!✨ The intersection: 3 / ?

Here is the road leading to the intersection where a mother and two of her children were recently struck and seriously injured by a driver in a hit-and-run. You’ll notice: wide street, shoulders, 30 mph speed limit. I’m no city planner, but this seems like a street where very few drive 30 mph. 🧵

Well this is quite plain, isn’t it?
Since passing the $253 million income tax cut on March 4, some JFAC members and legislators have begun zeroing out some federal grants and scaling back on Little's initiatives.
For example, on March 7 in JFAC, Sen. Cindy Carlson, R-Riggins, led the effort to zero out a $2.5 million request for Digital Access for All Idahoans grants that would have paid for laptop and desktop computers in more than a dozen rural and remote Idaho libraries. The program was intended to help provide internet access to Idahoans who face barriers.
But Carlson said the grant program contains elements of diversity, equity and inclusion and could have benefited people who don't speak English.

Can we not
The Biden administration required coal-and oil-burning power plants to greatly reduce emissions of toxic chemicals including mercury, which can harm babies' brains and cause heart disease in adults.
Now, the Trump administration is offering companies an extraordinary out:
Send an email, and they might be given permission by President Trump to bypass the new restrictions, as well as other major clean-air rules.

I am tired of hearing about how ’muscular’ and ‘dominant’ the Trump/Musk administration is. This piece calls out the weakness and immaturity they exhibit. Thanks for the Int’l Women’s Day shoutout. These attitudes don’t belong on the playground either!
Small boys: the formation of binary thinking
The tech bro giants who are so admired by Trump and so integral to his administration best exemplify Trumpworld's psychological core. This core is a cluster of attitudes that carve the world
into tightly interconnected groups of binary opposites: superior vs inferior, dominant vs subordinate, powerful vs weak, black vs white, normal vs abnormal, male vs female, self vs other, etc. Musk is a particularly extreme but also illustrative case.Key features of binary thinking are that it blocks the process of growing up and, in males, often fosters misogyny. Thus, we find Musk currently arrested in the teen mindset of a 15-year-old,
unable to develop the nuances of adulthood.
He's still playing out his early fanatical obsession with his comic book hero Superman and the compulsive need for drama and attention he shares with Trump. Hes still sharing shrill posts proclaiming that 'only high status males should participate in government because women (and low testosterone men) are incapable of critical thought; he's still making lewd jokes about breasts, and still expecting people to laugh at his removing the 'w' from Twitter.
