I was going on about how one of the things I enjoy about using canon lines is that the lack of voicing forces the player to interpret things like body language or tone. to no ones surprise i have more to say about this. you can consider this the extremely rough draft of the essay ive been threatening to write for a year

it’s hard for me to describe, but what fascinates me about the way she talks to him is that for as much as its clear that she condescends to him and resents him there are all of these little nuances that i think could only come from a place of some sort of fondness or at least understanding. like one thing i cite constantly talking about their relationship is her p1 letter where she says “you’re pretty smart, did you ever think of becoming an inquisitor??” like obviously that is at LEAST insincere from her and at most a massive insult kldsflj BUT: I DO THINK SHE THINKS HE’S SMART. like it isn’t just that she’s being a huge big faker for all of p1, she peppers in enough genuine (IMO!!!!) compliments to keep him talking to her and trusting her, or at least compliments that have grains of truth to them. he’s naive and ignorant and trusting but he’s not a complete idiot and she doesn’t address him the way she would a complete idiot. if she had nothing but contempt for him their entire relationship would look completely different i mean can you imagine what unmitigated contempt from aglaya lilich looks like jesus christ. one of my favorite moments is when she says “i’m nice to you because i want us to work together but just so you know i don’t have to be like this and i could basically kill you whenever i wanted” and like. that’s true! it’s literally true! she’s honest with him and complimentary of him, she’s just strategic about when and how she chooses to be these things. some people (like daniil) would call that manipulation but as i’ve said before you have to look at the position aglaya is in and ask yourself what her other options were. if she were fully honest with him from the get go it’s not just that she wouldn’t have gotten the help she needed from him, he literally would not have believed anything she said, he would not have BEEN ABLE to believe it. and it wouldn’t have done either of them any good.

carry-over from last image: and: at the end of the day they really do want the same thing. they want to break free of the bounds placed on them by capricious and uncaring masters and to do so with spite and maybe even a little flair if they can manage it. it’s the same masters for both of them. the powers that be hate them both and they hate aglaya even more than they hate daniil and she knows this. the problem is that the two of them see their way out of this situation as literal opposite paths. daniil thinks that’s an irreconcilable difference; aglaya does not.

inquisitor: why did you come to the town at the same time then? you are by all definitions a hero. a miracle-maker almost. it was the powers that be that have tried to make you detain a miracle here... not the poor obsessed kains. they've only played their part. they represent their own force. but you... do you really want to go back to being a slave? the powers that be are bending you to submission according to their own design!

bachelor: you are obsessed with revenge, aglaya. revenge is a bad companion in the search for the truth.

like you just cannot tell me she isn’t being at least some level of sincere in this conversation. “you can only hold its corpse” strikes me as such a genuine appeal to get him to see why his answers don’t lie in the polyhedron and one that’s coming from someone who both understands what matters to him and can sympathize with the position he’s in from experience. she’s not out to see him lose, she’s out to get what she wants, just like he is, and i think she would be genuinely pleased if she could get him to see that they want the same thing. but he’s too stubborn to see it, he’s too offended, he’s too hurt.

AND HE COULD SEE IT!!!! HE COULD!!!!! HE SEES IT WHEN ITS ARTEMY. even in scenarios/timelines where he can’t be convinced that the polyhedron has to come down he does understand why artemy wants that and he doesn’t hold it against him. ofc this is because he’s down horrific for artemy but also because artemy was basically the one singular person he was right to offer his trust to from the beginning and he respects him and he can see the literal actual physical proof of the value of his worldview in action through the panacea. throw on top of all of this the fact that being down horrific for artemy is another thing he and aglaya have in common and maybe one begins to understand the source of my fixation here

From my own experimentation, G'raha is programmed to drop *everything* and heal you if you're HP drops below 70% and he WILL eat attacks, stand in orange, and even /ignore the others/ while casting as WHM or PLD if it's to help you. So much DPS loss to clemencies...
