This is a spicy opening from Lindblom. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...
North Seattle's new Pinehurst Station will welcome passengers at 5 a.m.
Wednesday with less hype and lower expectations. It will be near-empty for a long time.
The aerial stop is surrounded by Interstate 5, a park, a golf course and single-family homes spread out among evergreen trees. Seattle had a full decade to plan for nearby blocks of apartments or condos to make the $240 million station more useful, but none of that construction is underway.
Sound Transit once hesitated to build here. Early data models said if housing and jobs didn't pour in, as few as 1,100 people a day would board a train at Pinehurst, far below industry standards.
But agency leaders acquiesced to the doggedness of one Seattle City
Council member, Debora Juarez, who insisted her district deserved a second rail stop besides Northgate.

Cities with long permitting times for new housing tend to have higher housing costs, per new paper: "permitting duration is positively associated with housing prices and negatively associated with production." evansoltas.com/papers/Durat...

I’m all for incrementalism, but the Rube Goldberg contraptions US policy makers will create vis a vis health care are astonishing to behold. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...
Established in 1992, the 340B program requires drugmakers to give certain safety-net providers, like those in rural areas or that disproportionately serve low-income patients, hefty discounts on outpatient drugs. Those providers, many of which operate on very thin margins, can then bill insurers for the prescriptions at higher market rates.
Pharmaceutical companies have to participate in the program to have their medications covered by Medicaid and Medicare.

Thank you @kromandavid.bsky.social for the wonderful kicker here (and important context).
Staff turnover in mayor’s offices is common, particularly in the first year as the office works out its processes and differing ideological views compete for the mayor’s ear.

Former Mayor Ed Murray saw half of his staff walk out the door in his first 18 months.

Former Mayor Bruce Harrell hired his niece, Monisha Harrell, to be his senior deputy mayor before she left a year and a half into his term. She later criticized the office and her uncle in an interview with KUOW.

I am sure this is a huge time saver for the parents, but boy, just policy failure on top of policy failure here (via LinkedIn).
LinkedIn post: SF on Saturday morning: a large % of Waymos are ferrying solo kids (8-14 yo), presumably to sports or other activities.
A friend told me that 85% of parents at their kids'
SF school use Waymo for kids pickup / drop off:
earlier it was ~10% using Uber and Lyft.
Shows how Waymo has grown by expanding the market, serving segments who otherwise were non-consumers of ride sharing.

Absolutely cursed paragraph:
Synagro, which is owned by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, said it was “vigorously contesting” the allegations. It said its preliminary study of PFAS levels where the sludge was applied showed numbers “drastically lower” than what the plaintiffs claimed, less than 4 parts per trillion in surface water, for example.
