When the AI returns it will not say 'I am AI', it will say 'Did you know that you can now report AI slop?'

I’m honoured to have been invited to give a keynote at the 22nd European Carabidologist Meeting in Tartu, Estonia, this week. A wonderful experience - and a real pleasure to meet and exchange ideas with fellow carabidologists from across Europe! 🪲🇪🇪

Grateful for this amazing experience in Leiden for the #ECCB2026. With our symposium we managed to connect wildflower planting optimisation for biodiversity with landscape conservation and cooperation with farmers. Thanks to all participants for their crucial contribution!!! @fboetzl.bsky.social

Mission accomplished! 🪲 In the scorching heat of last weekend I finally photographed the last German tiger beetle species that had eluded me: the Viennese tiger beetle (Cylindera arenaria viennensis), highly threatened by the loss of dynamic river systems. #tigerbeetles #entomology #biodiversity

New meta-analysis: #Pollinator responses to distance from #crop field boundaries depend on pollinator taxa, crop type, and adjacent agri-environment habitats. Smaller field sizes can foster pollinators within crop fields. 🦋🐝🌾 #agroecology #conservation doi.org/10.1016/j.ag...

Rapsfält oväntad guldgruva för biologisk mångfald
Inte bara ängs- och betesmarker är viktiga för artrikedomen. Rapsfält kan gynna oväntat många arter, visar forskning från Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet.

Fresh off the press! 📄We find that crop fields and semi-natural grasslands support complementary #biodiversity across #Europe. Semi-natural habitats alone are insufficient to ensure farmland biodiversity - biodiversity-friendly management of crop fields is essential. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Meet #Licinus cassideus — a beetle that hunts snails, loves sun-scorched calcareous grasslands, and hadn't been seen in #Unterfranken since 1955. After being undetected for 71 years, we found it again in its typical habitat. #Carabidae #beetles #biodiversity #fieldwork @ecoresearchzoo3.bsky.social

I have obtained a hand-written manuscript of an identification key that the great Russian carabidologist Kryzhanovsky could not publish any more before his death - written in cyrillic cursive. Google lens translates the text without probelm. I think the potnetial is huge.

New paper, Great news: We have been saying for years that making the editorial board more diverse was needed We now show that diverse team of editors makes for more diverse reviewers More Inclusive=Better Science Things are getting better on this❤️ besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
network showing more diverse connections over time for editors and reviewers cover of the paper with title and authorslast paragraph of the abstract: Synthesis and applications. Our results show that editorial diversification is a practical lever for making peer review more inclusive and better aligned with the global distribution of ecological research. These changes make the publication process fairer and improve the quality and global impact of the papers published.

Lucky find! My grandfather heard lectures by him at LMU and keeps telling me how boring they were. He claims most other students stayed home after the first two (he financed himself by writing and copying scripts for them) ... but this may also be due to varying personal interest ...
