“I long to fall into the sun / it can’t just be with anyone / it’s got to be with you” [late contribution to #FerdibertWeek2026 !]

Color art. Ferdinand is smiling with half-lidded eyes, blushing slightly, an expression clearly indicating he is enamored and infatuated

Color art. Hubert is startled, blushing deeply, and seems to be experiencing an oh moment as he sees the way Ferdinand is looking at him. Ferdinand’s hand is on his shoulder, implying that they are dancing.

For #ferdibertweek2026, I wrote a fic exploring the idea of Hubert using a Crest Stone to win battles, and Ferdinand being upset about his future spouse sacrificing himself for the cause. archiveofourown.org/works/86113696 #ferdibert

a pattern of sacrifice
FallenCiatokins
Summary:

It was not a pretty sight. He saw Hubert laying on the ground, padded with a few blankets. Parts of his hands and arms were scaly and blackened from his latest use of the Crest Stones that for some godforsaken reason they had in their army supply. Where did they get these tools, and why were they necessary to win the war? For Seiros’s sake, the man’s body was devouring itself. This was not right.

Hubert's reckless behavior with Crest Stones has led to him getting injured. Ferdinand is, understandably, upset.

A digital sketch of Hubert with dragon horns and wings. He's cradling a piece of ribbon in his hands with a soft yet conflicted expression. He wears a Mandarin-collar shirt with rolled-up sleeves and a brooch on the neck. A vest is layered on top. Everything is shaded dove gray sans the ribbon, which glows red.

#FerdibertWeek2026 Day 4 — legend, curse, creature Interwoven

Fanart of Ferdinand and Hubert as centaur and satyr, in an embrace. Ferdinand, who's first half resembling a horse, yet his hind legs are resembling dragons, including his tail; looks in bewilderment, as Hubert embroiders on his chest with a red thread. The symbols Hubert makes is an Aquila (Eagle) constellation. Hubert is really focused on his work, half face hidden; he has a pair of goat horns, goat legs, and is partially dark hair on his hair and tailbone. Ferdinand looks like a warrior, wears a belt resembling roman horses harnesses, holds a roman-shaped spear - not in an attack motion, he simply held it when Hubert decided to jump on him.
Their long tails are intertwined at the bottom of the picture

-Injured Hubert verses sick Hubert-

Injured Hubert trying to drag himself forward while bleeding out “Let me go Ferdinand! I… have to… carve a… b-bloody path!”
A distressed Ferdinand stepping on Hubert’s cape to stop him “HUBERT, STOP! YOU’RE HURT!”

Sick Hubert lying on his back “*cough* I fear I have the plague… *cough cough* Leave me here to die…”
Ferdinand holding a bowl of hot soup “But Linhardt said it is just a cold…”

here we freaking go #ferdibertweek2026

This foolish man.
Ferdinand was… weary. The battle had been a tough one, as battles tended to be. As he approached the medical tent, the Emperor stood outside, her purple eyes sparkling with concern. She clearly was worried about what she saw when she visited Hubert. Ferdinand felt his throat tighten. For the Emperor to feel such a way… she must have agreed that it was serious.
Taking a deep breath, he blinked away his exhaustion and strode into the medical tent.
It was not a pretty sight. He saw Hubert laying on the ground, padded with a few blankets. Parts of his hands and arms were scaly and blackened from his latest use of the Demonic Beast stones that for some godforsaken reason they had in their army supply. Where did they get these tools, and why were they necessary to win the war? For Seiros’s sake, the man’s body was devouring itself. This was not right.
Ferdinand responded knelt by Hubert, who weakly reached out his scaly hand toward him.
Despite his attempts to be calm, Ferdinand felt anger welling into the pit of his stomach. DId Hubert not understand that Ferdinand wanted to have a future with him? A future of them together, having tea (and coffee, Ferdinand supposed, which caused a brief smile to twitch upon his tensed face), and arguing about things that didn’t matter as they spent their days together?

It was an accident, Hubert didn't say. Because they both knew that. Because it would change nothing. Because no words fit around the twist in his heart. Because, frankly, his brain was not in charge at the moment. Instead, he loosened his grip on Ferdinand's hair to stroke his cheek. "Consider me contrite."
