I always have fun with the Halloween chapters of my books because Fae Springs has a Halloween party hosted by the Honey Badger Banner (a sort of club). Most of the kids in the story enjoy dressing up for these. Vedya & her GF Kohana dressed up as Beetlejuice and Lydia (from the cartoon) once.

Replica rotary candlestick phone, so disused because I don't have a landline that it has a thick layer of dust on it. Literally this thing has not even once been used the entire time I've owned it because I bought it for the aesthetics thinking maybe I would someday have the money for a landline, but I only got poorer over the decades.

She reviewed her mental map of the tunnels and where they were in relation to the rest of the house, which – because the tunnels were their own hollow hill nested in the larger hollow hill of the house, didn’t always track with the rest of the house, or even with what was possible without magic. Vedya had once found a room with an empty treasure chest during a game of hide-and-seek, and had taken to using it to store contraband for a while before Nizoni caught her at it.

I'm honestly not trying to start drama, but I just saw book discourse scroll across my IG feed, and wow, it's amazing. Elisabeth Wheatly, an author who has written a lot of "dark romance" novels has decided to go back and remove all the sex scenes (or "spicy content" as she called it), and rewrite them to fade to black.

Which, okay, she can decide what she wants to write. But retroactively changing published works seems a little weird to me.

A lot had happened during those previous five trips, and while it didn’t look like it as they had no obvious luggage, on this sixth trip they were moving in. They already had the place they were staying picked out, and had already given a magical oath to respect Zentsis and its surrounding lands and all the beings within, as well as a promise to help defend Zentsis with every ounce of strength they had if it was necessary, which was the closest thing the city had to rent.

The city did have an economy, mostly down by the portal hub where there were some restaurants and a Trade Market (their term for what most witches called a Goblin Market) where they did trade and other business with travelers from other cities and lands. The girls were in the process of looking for a job down there, which would probably only take a few more days since the people of Zentsis felt that human witches like them could bring in more business from the people heading to Eagle Canyon, just by virtue of being human. Which the girls had to admit was probably accurate. So maybe they’d have a job soon, but even if they didn’t, they’d be living near enough the school while paying no rent, and they could always get a job on-campus if the Zentsis job didn’t pan out.
