im sorry, not before super paper mario. i'd say pm64 as well but at least that is playable on nso. unless they un-sanitize this game (which we know they wouldn't) it should get in line. i think classic pm needs to be firmly and safely back before they revisit any modern entry.

in most cases i do think the remake balances the styles well but i do miss what was still lost from the original. i think that original style can still exist in hd, with all the new animations and details and stuff. and i still think "PM3DS E3 2010 but in HD" is the theoretical best case style

i'll be honest i'm not a fan of the instances in the ttyd remake where they took something that was a full 3d model originally and intentionally made it look more artificial by using flat pieces positioned perpendicularly.

it's clear Japan has a much higher value on "the marioverse as a whole" as opposed to the overseas image of "only the Super Mario brand starting with SMB1" just from this (this is an official english version but it's the JP site) (though not even the JP timeline includes Donkey Kong)

when this odyssey costume was first datamined i was 100% convinced it was in an unfinished state and the released version would be animated (each smb1 frame recreated this way), because what do you MEAN fixed jumping pose parented to 1 bone is up to the quality standards of this game 😭
