Luz ('18) has a wonderful storytelling style of diegetic retelling of previous events alongside the events of Luz being stalked by an entity from her past. One of the oddest demon possession films I've seen. Recommend to watch multiple times for picking up the full effect of this spooky bottle film.
Luz in a gray tshirt and messy hair, sitting in the driver's seat of her taxi after being in a car crash looking distant. In the back a woman with curly hair and a white leather jacket over a black dress sits motionless with blood trickling down her neck from a head wound.

Hagazussa (2017) masterfully portrays witchy folk horror with purposeful cinematography, limited dialogue and an atmosphere of continually mounting dread. Beautiful and a reference for environmental story telling. If you are up for a slow film, check it out.

Haunting Goblin weirdos going off in the background, the directress wheezing on the other side of a thin sheet, and a girl riling up the protag with nighttime gossip.
Two girls sitting so close their heads are nearly touching, barely lit by a deep red light. One has squinted eyes and is whispering to the other about the directress, while the other has a look of terror.

A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (2014)
The Girl riding down the middle of a road at night on a skateboard while wearing a white and black horizontally stripped shirt, black pants and a chador billowing behind her. They Look Like People keeps creeping back in my head. Juxtaposing humor and everyday life between old friends with beautifully intense scenes of paranoia was done wonderfully to make you feel for the characters and also get weirded out.

Found Blood of the Dragon ('71) in a four DVD collection for $5... it has provided so much more entertainment than that price. Ridiculously fun, pretty good choreography and with just enough jokes to keep it fun while not getting absurd. Can't recommend enough and a good gateway film to the genre.

Finally have a nice copy of Mirror. Tarkovsky's way of using the equipment and film he could get a hold of was masterful. Would have loved to meet them and chew their ear off about how shots were made and just how dangerous some of the rigging was. Never made a film I didn't love.

Bring Her Back (2025) is one of the few recent films that have made me squirm. Immersive acting and setting throughout. Wonderful play with the mystery of what exactly is going on by properly pacing out each intriguing clue and while it's not hard to guess, the truth is nicely ambiguous. Grapefruit.

War of the Worlds (2025) is one of the worst films I've seen in my entire life. Unhinged editing, nonsensical story, uploading "rabbit virus.exe" to fight the aliens, and the product placement is insulting. Do not watch as it's not even fun. I'm just angry now.
The lead character, played by Ice Cube, barely emoting but with a slack jawed open mouth staring into the camera waiting for his Teams call to connect. The entire movie is show from webcam and phone camera perspectives. It's infuriating how lazy this thing is.

Don't know why but I've subjected myself to my favourite "hostile" movie again, Enter The Void (2009), where it seems like the goal of Gasper Noé is to harm the audience. It's the best depiction of misophonia/hypersensitivity I've ever seen and makes me physically sick. I love it (for many reasons).

The Red Suitcase (2023) has some issues but its delivery, the cinematography, pacing and especially the acting are on point, making it an impactful political/spiritual horror. A simple look and natural reactions at just the right time had me in tears.
A couple in a dark house at dawn. The husband sits in darkness, a look of weariness on his face as he leans back against a pillar and stares at the ceiling. Rather sad I hadn't seen Hotel (2004) until now. It purposely doesn't follow through on the different avenues it opens up in order to explore the feelings of dread a young person feels when exposed to the dangers of the world for the first time alone. Beautiful suspense, not for everyone #filmsky
A shot of the woods behind the titular hotel where the protagonist, Irene, is working nights. At the very bottom of the shot appears to be a curb covered in leaves at the edge of a road or path. Beyond it lies a few trees resembling marble columns flanking a path or doorway. The light illuminating the curb and trees struggles to reach further than three or four trees before the darkness beyond swallows it completely. The shot lingers here several times during the film. No movement, no sounds, just the darkness and whatever waits within. Our protagonist Irene wearing her work uniform from the hotel and standing in a heavy wooden doorway, looking over her shoulder with an look of uncertainty and fear as she tries to see into the nearby woods.

While it was let down by the story, the acting and fever dream of the ending in All You Need Is Blood made it an overall enjoyable experience. It felt disjointed and unfocused, but if you want a low budget horror about making a low budget horror topped off with schlocky gore, go for it #filmsky

Monkey Man (2024) is great, but I highly recommend to pay special attention to the audio mix throughout. It is highly dynamic and is used extremely well to draw you in and focus before ripping you to the next story beat, aurally painting the scene alongside the tight cinematography. #filmsky

Every time I watch Hundreds of Beavers (2024) the main thing that pops into my head is how fun it must have been to film it. The enjoyment had on set feels like it translates through to the finished product and it has continued to be one of my top liked films of the past decade.
A snowy hill with three beavers (men in beaver costumes) carrying logs on their shoulders only to have the main character ride a sled saucer down the hill and take out the beaver in the middle.
