My daughter and I just blitzed through season 1 of THE PITT in about three days. Unbelievably good television. A+++

Just ordered me and the kids tickets for a HUNGER GAMES movie marathon for National Cinema Weekend. May the odds be ever in our favour.

Got to write this love letter to THE FLY, focusing not so much on the effects (phenomenal as they are) but on the breathtaking, heartbreaking, soul-shaking romance at the heart of it all that still makes this such an electrifying classic.

Just rewatched Fight Club for the first time in like 20 years. Went to log it on @letterboxd.social and well, this is pretty cool:

I have loved ALIENS since I was about 9 years old, so it was an honour to get to write this appreciation for the film’s 40th anniversary.

Was recently invited by the lovely chaps at @vampirevideos.co.uk to chat all things INNOCENT BLOOD. The film might not be the greatest, but the conversation was great & there were enough Robert Loggia impersonations and love of Scorsese movies to see us through. Available wherever you get your pods!

Absolutely loved this conversation with Phil for tomorrow's episode of @top100pod.bsky.social - ironic as it's about one of my least favourite films we've covered on the pod. Tune in!

The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”

Edgar Wright’s best film? One of the greatest musicals of all time? A film which never disappoints? For me tonight’s rewatch was all of the above.

It's sad that my local @showcasecinemasuk.bsky.social has failed to screen NO OTHER CHOICE, despite advertising it as part of their 'Spotlight' promotion and, after I emailed them to query, assuring me they would screen it a week after release (they did not). MELANIA however is on twice tomorrow.

Rewatch of THE TWO TOWERS Extended Edition. Perhaps this lacks the pacing of FELLOWSHIP - it definitely slows to an Entish amble by the mid-point - but it's very hard to argue against the iconic status of the Battle of Helm's Deep.

Just out of THE BONE TEMPLE. Best entry in the franchise by some distance; also one of the most upsetting films I've seen for ages. Beautiful, stomach-turning, elegiac, nightmarish. Between this and SINNERS Jack O'Connell is building a strong résumé of the most iconic horror villains of the 2020s.

#StrangerThings comes into land with a solid finale. Definitely a step up from Vol2, but struggled to maintain a sense of genuine stakes. Still, the fact that the whole franchise has consistently been a 4* average is a minor miracle

I could quite happily watch a new Knives Out mystery every Christmas for the rest of time. Highlights for WAKE UP DEAD MAN include O'Connor's empathic faith pitted against the combative religion of his hypocritical flock. Loved it.

Last book of the year. A mixed bag - as most anthologies are - but despite no standouts there are enough creepy moments (particularly in final story RAT) to make it worth the price of admission.
