Say what you want about clergy, but when it comes to hitting reply all on group emails, they are outstanding in their field!

Ecclesiastical Hot Take: If the church spent as much time, effort, energy, and resources blessing tax collectors and sinners as it spent blessing poodles and hedgehogs, it would be more faithful to Jesus’ message of love and grace.

For the record, I will not be retrofitting the church bell tower to allow for snipers and drones.

There was a time when, out of respect for the dead, the grieving, and the traumatized, nobody shared images or videos of the towers actually being hit on 9/11. This seems to have changed this year, and it feels like something sacred has been violated.

Going out for Greek food tonight. The online menu didn’t specify whether it was Koine Greek food. So I don’t know whether or not there will be Biblical (pro)portions.

The only time I’m ever interested in hearing something about Harry and Meghan is if Bishop Michael Curry is involved.

Love it when one of our stained glass windows pairs perfectly with the gospel reading.

Everyone can’t stop talking about The Odyssey and I don’t understand what’s so compelling about a movie based on my old minivan.

Rats. I should have referred to sharing the communion wine this morning as a “hydration break.” Missed opportunity.

The best part of my day happened in the handshake line after church when a blind parishioner asked me to bless his new service dog Seymour. And, for the record, “Seymour” is the greatest name for a seeing eye dog EVER!

We baptized a young adult this morning who first started coming to church after discovering my TikTok account. Which isn’t to say that TikTok leads to salvation - or that I’m a “baptism influencer.” But it’s a reminder that the Holy Spirit can and does work in amazing and surprising ways. TBTG!

I admit I sometimes wonder how much the church spends annually for bishops to fly to other bishops’ consecrations.

Went to a new barber today. When he learned I was an Episcopal priest, he asked me what I thought about “gay Christians.” When I told him they were beloved children of God, he started lecturing me about the nature of sin. I am currently looking for a new barber.

Oh God, I just realized I’m going to CREDO on Tuesday and haven’t done a lick of the pre-conference materials. In other news, I need to hire another full-time priest at Bethesda-by-the-Sea. Anyone want to move to Palm Beach?! We’re doing some great things, having fun, making disciples, growing, etc.

Had something happen yesterday I’ve never seen before in 25 years of ordained ministry. A bishop, during a visitation for confirmations, put an offering in the collection plate when it came up to the altar. Not in a showy way - he just called the acolyte over and put in a check. Grateful for that!

That’s sad! I always offer it at 10 am. In my early years, I would literally force the Altar Guild to stop working and pray for 15 minutes. Now they look forward to it almost as much as I do!
