فاروق @faroukk.bsky.social · 08/10/2026this is my first big reported story I've gotten to do, and I'm so grateful to my editors at The Reader for giving me the opportunity! With how ubiquitous physical media collecting has become these last few years, it was great to do an anthropological deep dive into the rising interest 020

فاروق @faroukk.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I really struggle in times like these to find any words that do justice to what's happening, that can be of use to those who have suffered. At the very least, I hope that the outpouring of shared grief that is happening can lead to a better world for those who have been hurt. It has to. 030

فاروق @faroukk.bsky.social · 29/09/2026You can and should of course be proud of your work, and try your personal best, but what is considered "THEE best" is not an objective thing, and will vary from reader to reader. In the same way that you have decided certain writing you've read is "the best" for you specifically, but others won't. 010
فاروق @faroukk.bsky.social · 29/09/2026It is not your job to write the greatest thing ever. The job of a writer, really, is to convey what they've observed from their lived experience, and to describe what it is like for them to exist in the world at this particular time in history, with the knowledge they've accrued so far. 111
فاروق @faroukk.bsky.social · 29/09/2026you can always tell when a writer is trying to write "the best, most brilliant thing ever." You can always tell when a writer is reaching for "the best" or thinks they've written something of that nature, and very often that writing sucks. It's vague, or trying too hard, or fails in some other way 120
فاروق @faroukk.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I really relate to this. I often feel a burden from how much I've been moved by the great insights of other writers, and thus feel the shadow they cast as i sit down to write. I've heard this advice from others, and I've found it valuable in helping me reckon with my own outlook on my writing: 110
