In a recent article, I concluded that in the 1470-86 period, lines of drilled type were wired together for composition, imposition and printing. Locking chases were not then used, lines of type being held in press by perpendicular force. www.academia.edu/169042456/Th...

Fragments of medieval Hebrew text on parchment, used to reinforce spine on Botero, Relationi Universali. Venice, Perin, 1595. Any help? (I know they're very small). Thanks! #paleography #medieval #medieval_hebrew #fragmentology #medieval_manuscripts #medieval_paleography

Beats me. But I've learned the letters in modern Georgian are called, in order: ani bani gani doni eni vini zeni tani ini kani lasi mani nari oni pari zhani rae ? sani lari uni pari kani ghani qari shini chini tsani dzili tsili chari khani jani hae See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia...

On further look, the scribes were different. No reason to think texts are same. The cover ms is ruled; the spine ms not. Line spacing differs. Letter forms differ - d (horizontal bar in cover), final s (long s in the spine ms), Tironian et (uncrossed; only on spine), 9 used for con in cover ms, etc.

This one is beyond me. The ms on the spine actually is from "De excommunicacione et interdicto", a late 13 c. treatise by Bérenger Frédol (c. 1250-1323), w/ variants. I assume the larger fragment used for the covers also is, but I can't confirm that. #medieval_manuscripts #medieval #fragmentology

JULIAN DATES. I learned about Julian dates from Archbishop Ussher’s Annales where he dated the beginning of the world as 4004 BC. He also gave the Julian date of 710 which is the number of days from Jan. 1, 4713 BC (don’t ask). Today, details of the salmonella egg recall refer to “Julian dates” 1/2

#Medieval_Paleography. Two different #manuscript_fragments cover this Quintilian (Lyon 1538). One wraps the book. A smaller fragment from Liber Sextus, L. 5, T. 2, C 18, covers the spine. I have given up on the wrapper. Seems to be legal, but not from Sextus - maybe a Corpus Juris commentary?
