Hey everyone still up on Wednesday. It's now tomorrow here.

Hit the donation target too, just in time, thanks Rowena! 🥳

And alas my September Stomping has come to an end with a final push walking around Lake Yamanaka. Sadly Mt Fuji somehow remained elusive as we were in a cloud, but in the final tally I hit a whopping 286km. 373,000 steps.

I am delighted to announce that I have hit my walking target of 250km for the month, and then some. Just in time to reach Mt Fuji and at last sit and gaze upon it in peace. But a typhoon has hit so I'm only gazing upon where it should be. Impatiently.

Sitting in a yukata looking at the glorious mt Fuji view which is not there

By my calculations I'm at 244km walked for the month, making today the day I'll hit my 250km target. It hasn't all been smooth sailing, having been dead on my feet from flu the past 4 days or so, and having got in some dicey situations (see pics) but we're almost there.

The terror of being behind glass, high up in a tower pressed against the window pane, oh no

Walked so far this month it's taken me right through a typhoon (and a bout of flu) and off up Tokyo. If that doesn't deserve a donation I don't know what www.justgiving.com/page/phil-wi...

Another week through and I'm on target with 180km, despite a few down days trying to duck around looming illness. No pic from today so here's Herbert tired after some walking. Next stop, though, is Japan. Not moving so fast on the donations so if you can help us hit the target please help out!

Got my September Stomping steps in yesterday helping my wife clear out her clinic. She's moving on to other things, but it's been ten great years since she first revived the long-term unused property, and I couldn't be prouder of her.

Third time in as many weeks that I've lost half a day trying to get things back to normal after a software update has taken something that simply worked to something that simply doesn't. I'm about ready to pack up and live off the land.

They're talking BRCA on Radio 2 right now and one of our dedicated Stompers got on to talk about BRCA Chat - well done to Janine, great to hear word spreading!

010

Phil Williams @fantasticphil.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

Another full week down and about halfway there - I've crossed the halfway point of both donations and walking at about 135km covered now! Though not so active on fundraising front; it's as hard as selling books, and that's saying something!

Phil Williams @fantasticphil.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Today's September Stomping took us to the photo hotspot of Balcombe Viaduct - a lovely place, well worth the walk. And another 7km or so in the bag.

Pro tip for spam emailers: don't try and bluff a deeper meaning out of my book titles without reading the book; you are very likely to get it wrong. With the exception of Dyer Street Punk Witches, I guess. That's pretty straightforward.

Phil Williams @fantasticphil.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

Tis been a full week of walking now so it's time for a proper update on my Stomptember. I'm on target so far despite a couple weaker days, averaging just over 9km a day, and am over halfway to my donation target. Hence a time for jumping.

It's telling that when I try to find out what the UN climate report said the most visible 'news' is articles dismissing the news without actually reporting it. Whole articles of 'here's 6 paragraphs of other random people talking about why we shouldn't care' (including for some reason Bill Gates).

Phil Williams @fantasticphil.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

My September Stomping for brca_chat today took me to an especially exotic locale, somewhere abroad you might think. But no, just the grand opening for the fancy new Montague Gardens in town.

I'm going analogue with my fundraising. Old-school printouts to leave in 2-3 strategic local places. Let's go. (Also realise I should probably get back into posting about my books but this is technically writing so pff.)

Printed notice about my sponsored walking, brca charity and Herbert one of the seven great dogs

Phil Williams @fantasticphil.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

My word, just saw an ambiguous post about a new local business opening soon and was baffled about why lots of women were commenting enthusiastically until I realised it said "supper club" and not "stripper club".

That's Day One of Stomp September complete and I have snuck in approximately 13.9km, somewhat ahead of the game to hit my 250km target. So I can sleep tomorrow.

ICYMI: @kitvaria.bsky.social reviews Phil Williams' (@fantasticphil.bsky.social) A Winter’s Mercy! - JI 🐉 "A dark, muddy, and deeply human military fantasy that manages to be both brutal and heartwarming." fantasy-faction.com/2025/a-winte... #booksky 💙📚🪐

The book cover sits in the center of the image. It shows a white woman in full military combat gear carrying a rifle. She is standing with her back to a mountain lake surrounded by autumn trees. Nestled by the edge of the lake is an old town with a tall church steeple. A few places in the woods have plumes of smoke rising from the forest. The background of the image is a photo of some orange-brown maple leaves floating on the surface of the water. The light from above reflects back too, revealing the trees and blue sky above the water.

If you're a new writer looking to publish your book, my biggest piece of advice is to do research into publishing, no matter whether you want to go trad or self-pub. And PLEASE avoid vanity presses and hybrid publishers that ask you to pay to publish your book.
