When I was applying to college last century, Cornell had a terrible reputation for women, even then. It seems the problem has only gotten worse. Maybe frats shouldn't be permitted on campus. Off campus only, so they are under the jurisdiction of "real" police. I don't know what the answer is..

So AI has risks. AI companies think we need to slow down. How about we stop subsidizing data centers and compute costs and build the true costs and externalities into the pricing?? Seems like the market could help address the problem if we stopped these sweetheart data center deals.

This is beyond shocking and appalling. It's the kind of thing their supervisor should be aware of, both at the the hospital and medical group. I encourage you to share with as many people at the hospital in leadership and patient advocacy positions as possible (sharing with 1 often isn't enough).

When healthcare is treated as a business/ profit center only and not a critical service, L&D gets cut because it doesn't make money. Such a large portion of births, especially in rural and poorer communities, are paid by medicaid. Which pays diddly squat. [Sidebar, medicaid should pay more. ]

Yes! If data centers were required to pay appropriate rates / costs that reflect both the negative effects to communities AND the ginormous profits they reap, it wouldn't be so attractive. And orgs like meta wouldn't need to "contribute $1b to communities " bc they'd already be paying fair

There are many different kinds of people and workers (obvs). Introverts like me much prefer working from home. I am more productive, I get enough social interaction from video calls, and I get to reset after exhausting calls. I can see how work from home is not a good fit for everyone.

The article specifically talks about how these bulk book purchases (at least as quoted by one bookseller) are often rare, foreign, and harder to find books. So yeah destroying these copies brings us closer to some of them possibly being lost forever.

Figure out how to have the uncomfortable conversations: talking to kids about sex, suicide, drugs. Talking to your kids' friends' parents about guns in the home. Show your kids you can have hard conversations and hopefully they'll come to you with their own hard topics they need help with.
