This is not about the merits of Iran’s nuclear program. No president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the US without the approval of Congress. This is an unambiguous impeachable offense.

For anybody interested in honoring one of the masters:
Text from a cropped screencap off Discord:
> the memorial guest of honor for Readercon this year is Charles R. Saunders, a criminally underappreciated Black fantasy author (and journalist) who passed away in 2020 at age 73. The program book is trying to get folks to write appreciations of him (250-1000 words) but as I said, criminally underappreciated, so they are having trouble getting enough. Anyone here who could throw 250-500 words in their direction? Contact Margo Williams (margo@readercon.org)

Australia has compulsory voting; I made this video to explain why: it’s not about forcing us to vote, it’s about forcing governments to ensure a ballot reaches EVERY CITIZEN’S HAND, & we owe it to conservative, rural Tasmanian Senator Herbert Payne in 1924 for making that argument. #auspol

5. If you listen only to corporations, you’re a dupe. Of course, they'll justify the harmful things they want. Of course, they'll tell you that rules are too onerous, taxes too high and subsidies too low. It takes spectacular political naivety to take them at their word. ... Oh, hello Mr Starmer.

3. Why not? Well, Keir Starmer has been so good as to explain it: these policies came about as a result of his "conversations with leading CEOs”. This is a bill for corporations, not for us. How long will it be before we discover that it was drafted by a Tufton Street junktank?

2. It's an extraordinary thing, this bill, drafted with no input whatever from anyone with environmental expertise. In fact, inputs from professional bodies and scientists working on environmental issues appear to have been systematically struck down. The government does not want this scrutiny.

One of the wilder political things in recent history is that Project 2025 publicly released a 900 page document laying out their plans to roll back 100 years of human progress and then during the campaign Republicans just said "no we're not :)" and then they won and now they're doing it all.

As Home Affairs Minister, Peter Dutton repeatedly argued in court against providing life-saving medical care to lawful refugees and asylum seekers in Australia's care. Here's a list of just some of the lives he tried to subject to negligent care in 2018 alone. A significant trigger warning here.
FRX17 v Minister for Immigration and Border Protection (2018) 262 FCR 1; [2018] FCA 63 (9 February 2018) Pre-teen refugee at risk of developing psychotic depressive illness and with history of suicide attempts ordered to be transferred for acute, specialist, inpatient care, not available on Nauru, through interlocutory injunction.

AYX18 v Minister for Home Affairs [2018] FCA 283 (6 March 2018) Ten-year-old refugee with a history of attempts on his own life ordered by the Court to be transferred to Australian specialist inpatient care, not available on Nauru, through interlocutory injunction.

DCQ18 v Minister for Home Affairs [2018] FCA 918 (15 June 2018) Thirty-year-old with a history of attempts on her own life ordered by the Court to be transferred to Australia for termination of pregnancy, not available on Nauru, through interlocutory injunction.BAF18 v Minister for Home Affairs (2018) 162 ALD 115; [2018] FCA 1060 (11 July 2018) Seventeen-year-old refugee with history of self-harm and suicide ideation ordered by the Court to be transferred to specialist inpatient or acute community-based care, not available on Nauru, through interlocutory injunction.
DJA18 v Minister for Home Affairs [2018] FCA 1050 (11 July 2018) Two-year-old refugee with encephalitis who had already been transferred to Port Moresby ordered by the Court to be transferred to Australia for appropriate care, not available on Nauru, through interlocutory injunction.
DRB18 v Minister for Home Affairs [2018] FCA 1163 (25 July 2018) Twenty-seven-year-old refugee who had potentially suffered a penetrating eye injury ordered to be transferred to appropriate medical assessment and care, not available on Nauru, through interlocutory injunction.
DWE18 v Minister for Home Affairs [2018] FCA 1121 (26 July 2018) Child suffering resignation syndrome with a history of self-harm ordered by the Court to be transferred to specialist inpatient care in Australia, through interlocutory injunction.
EHW18 v Minister for Home Affairs [2018] FCA 1350 (31 August 2018) Forty-six-year-old refugee on Manus Island who was diabetic, blind in one eye from an assault in Papua New Guinea and going blind in the other who was also at an elevated risk of suicide ordered to be removed from Papua New Guinea to Australia for treatment.
ELF18 v Minister for Home Affairs [2018] FCA 1368 (3 September 2018) Female refugee previously hospitalised “for a considerable period” after a violent incident on Nauru, suffering post-traumatic stress disorder and at risk of self-harm ordered to be transferred to Sydney for inpatient care.
