Every autumn, we get a spider in our window. Over several weeks, we watch it grow to horrific size. It either lurks in the corner with one leg extended to a single strand; or sits in the middle of its web. And it's a messy eater! Leaving rust spots spattered on the windowsill.

It's so easy to confuse complexity for quality in a game. Altay doesn't do anything extraordinary, its deck building and card play is dead simple, and I'm loving playing this with my son. But it does capture that early-civ feeling of expanding and tech growth, racing for a foothold. Good fun so far.

The first 4 chapters of Who Made the Lamb took a month in 2025. I returned to Lamb in 2026 and it took five more months to complete the first draft. So, roughly six months of writing against a backdrop of full-time work. Excited to see what I write with the freedom to focus only on writing.

Day two of unemployment: took daughter to see Spiderman: Brand New Day. She really liked it. So did I, but I wish they'd put more thought behind lines like Peter's, "you're not a killer!" when the antagonist flat-out killed a bunch of people (that bearded guy with the truck, a tank in New York.)
