my favorite thing to do when ppl visit us is, naturally, showing our tortoise to ppl, and I guess we’re very memorable bc someone who visited us saw me in town and went “OH HIIII *to husband* it’s the turtle lady! *to me* sorry, that’s what my kids call you, they loved that you showed him to em”

I’m actually a bit better depression-wise today but everything is making me tear up? from bad (the state of the world) to good (my cat being the cutest bb ever) to dumb (I miss my hummingbirds) I much prefer this to numbness, esp bc some of the Cry Causes are good, but I feel ridiculous 🫠

all of my hummingbirds are gone (tho there are still a few stragglers from time to time) but fortunately nuthatches are just as capable of being weird little assholes as hummingbirds (said with love) exhibit A

he’s an Adult so he’s at least 15yo and is about 12” long and won’t get bigger. he was found wandering, probably a pet, tho he’s endangered in the wild. ppl who found him brought him to a herpetologist who works with us, and now we have him! he’s used to being handled and likes watermelon a lot.
