Ah just general uneasiness For me, I would worry if I lost google books (esp Ngrams) or google trends. Very useful for research. Losing GS: 🤷

Saw #TheBrutalist last night Everyone I was with agreed it was among the worst movies we’ve ever seen Incoherent jumble of cliched ideas, unfollowable plot, uninteresting characters, self-indulgent pacing Anyone who tells you it’s good either has no taste or is afraid to name a naked emperor

Thx for this post, Dave. I really can’t see a strong counter to this. I wonder also if this is in fact the case in various fields such as medicine where articles are written in very standardized formats

Trump's pick to run the FBI wants to target Trump's critics. Forget about whether he *can*—the fact that he publicly stated he wants to, and that this didn't immediately disqualify him from getting anywhere near the government's top law enforcement agency, is a sign of our democracy's deterioration.

Thx but not following the relevance of smartphone? P.S. it’s clearly an American phenomenon that spread thru the world so there has to be a pretty recent pre-period where it was just in the US

The upshot? 1. Cut the Dems a bit of a break since you too have no explanation for why the majority of voters could vote for Trump 2. The only explanations that matter are those that can help get those senators & judges to play their constitutional roles & stop Trump
010
Ezra Zuckerman Sivan @ezrazuckermansivan.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
My coauthors & I have written papers about how lying demagoguery can be an effective tool for expressing deeper truths about political grievances But we’ve found no good explanation for how this kind of desecration of core values could be acceptable to voters And you don’t have one either
100
Ezra Zuckerman Sivan @ezrazuckermansivan.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
But can *you* explain how any American — let alone most voters— could vote for someone who can denigrate a POW or call a dead soldier a “sucker” while standing next to the grave of the soldier’s (a general & chief of staff!) father?

Ezra Zuckerman Sivan @ezrazuckermansivan.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
Otherwise, I’ll say I’m sick of articles focused on what the Dems did wrong They definitely did a lot wrong
110
Ezra Zuckerman Sivan @ezrazuckermansivan.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
But maybe they can come to realize that Trump is an obese 78 yr old & a lame duck? & maybe insanity like the Gaetz & Gabbard nominations can knock sense into them? I mean everyone (incl Trump, ahem) knows Tulsi is a Russian asset. & she’s a Democrat! Senate GOP is going to allow her to be DNI??
110
Ezra Zuckerman Sivan @ezrazuckermansivan.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
There’s unfortunately no good reason to be optimistic about this Many if not most are MAGA cultists (looking at you Alito & Thomas) & the others (hello Lindsey) can see what happened to Cheney & Kinsinger
100
Ezra Zuckerman Sivan @ezrazuckermansivan.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
So the thing that matters now is whether the people who retain some ability to curtail his power— Senate Republicans & SCOTUS conservatives— can recognize the danger Trump represents to our republic & the world & can summon the courage to stop him
110
Ezra Zuckerman Sivan @ezrazuckermansivan.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
Why? Because what’s done is done A menace to our republic is going to be president & this time there will be virtually no guardrails

Why did most Americans voters choose an anti-🇺🇸-authoritarian-grifter-narcissist-gangster-kleptocrat-lying demagogue? & how could they 4 yrs after narrowly escaping his violent attempt to subvert democracy? It’s a great question & one my coauthors & I have papers on But it’s unimportant now
