#genealogy bloggers, a question... for those of us whose family was all over the US prior to the 1930s, how do you separate your blogging? My great-grandparents began marrying outside their communities, so I feel like I have 7 very distinct communities or branches that would appeal differently

Writing about breaking my brick wall only for another brick wall to meet me, lmao. I feel like I'm so close figuring out how my Dosia Hicks is related to the Hicks of Boone County, Missouri... but not yet. I think I disproved the "Dosia was an Indian orphan" Hulen lore tho. #genealogy

I posted in a local genealogy facebook group for my grandfather's hometown, and lamented I don't have a photo of my 2x great-grandfather, who died in 1952. Someone shared a photo with me! AND his wife, who died in 1933! Joseph! And Katie! How amazing! Keep these societies alive!

A mystery in #genealogy ... how likely is it that two 12 year old girls named Anna Horak would be conflated on an 1860 ship manifest? Of all documents, it seems near impossible for a manifest. Here's how I know there should be two different girls- stutteringgenealogy.wordpress.com/2026/08/16/b...

One little #genealogy mystery to me was if my grandma was given her name to honor two people. Her name was Elizabeth Anne. Her mother was Elizabeth Isabelle. It's been assumed she was named for her mom. No Anne on that side of the family. However, her father's grandmother, who helped raised him,

I retook the StrengthsFinder... which I know it's discouraged. But I was newly 19 when I took it (2010), and now at 35, I am no longer in a conservative religious ecosystem of "information", and I've worked through a ...lot of things. And the results are fascinating.

My dad is a descendent of the 2nd Governor of Maryland, Thomas Green, who came over on the Arc and Dove expedition in 1634. Catholics are so on the nose. My mom is a descendent of a French Huguenot, Jean de la Chaumette, who fled the persecution by Catholics in 1690s, and got to Virginia in 1720.

I spent over 3 years constantly churning out new content for Stutterology. I more or less got out everything I'd been thinking about over the years, and then new things as they came. The new stuff I'm processing nowadays... I'm not ready for it to go to social media yet. It's different in nature.

In high school and college, I'd take odd jobs at my church to try to make some money. Being AFAB meant I was always assigned to the kids rooms for babysitting, whereas AMAB folks got a wider variety. I asked for other tasks and was often told they'd "look" but kept giving me the kids rooms...

So I'm researching stuff about Rush Limbaugh and there's a claim in an unauthorized biography that's made its way to Wikipedia that the name Rush comes from a family member named Edna Rush, to not lose her maiden name. I looked further into the Limbaugh tree, esp since I have my own Rush ancestors

I've written about my ancestor, Theodocia Hicks, and how the Hulen family lore was that she was an "orphaned Indian child" found on an expedition with a younger sister by Young E Hicks. Timeline wise, this didn't make sense with Y. E.'s death in 1849. I finally explored DNA... #genealogy

I've taken a long break from my #stuttering public advocacy (though still doing other things behind the scenes), and it's been challenging to accept that this is where I am right now. It's really hard to care about the dumb grifters we have in our community who are just relentless.

Watching "finding your roots" is convincing me that #genealogy storytelling can be one of the best uses of connecting us to history and to each other. We all have ancestors who at some point were on the right side and others who were on the wrong side of history. And they were all humans.

I've a brick wall in Matthew Samuel Moore, born 1809 in Spartanburg, SC. He's been misattributed as the son of Andrew Berry Moore and his first wife, who didn't have children. The one thing that gets me is that Matthew's children had land on the M and S Tygar River... (1/2) #genealogy

One of my odder #genealogy finds was my Czech Horak ancestors in 1880. They had just moved to Jewell County, Kansas that year. It lists their surname as Hork (transcription was Hock), and says they're from France! I found them by going page by page, looking for bigger families and immigrants.

DNA matches are wonderful clues for #genealogy siblings lost to time. If I could do it again, I doubt I'd willingly send my DNA in to a company... but here we are. There's a lot of questions I'd never have answers to without it. Other times, it can lead you into the direction of a paper trail!

Yesterday Portland Mayor, Keith Wilson, sent out a call to action for people to reach out to our officers and express gratitude. Absolutely bananas that while federal agents are out kidnapping and murdering people, that Mayor Wilson is doing this.
Email from Keith Wilson, Mayor of Portland Oregon

Dear friends,
On Thursday, January 19th, I received a call that every mayor dreads. Two of our Portland Police officers responding to a call for help were shot and wounded. They are both very lucky to be alive.
Please take a look at these photos. The person we're looking for was described as a white male in his mid-30s, with facial hair, wearing a black baseball cap and jacket, a gray hoodie, black pants, and black shoes. He was wearing a black backpack and carrying a green shopping bag. We believe he is armed with a knife and a handgun.Email from Mayor Wilson
The National Police Association is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person responsible for the shooting attack on our officers.
This shooting is a stark reminder of the dangers our officers face every day while serving and protecting our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families. I thank all our officers and professional staff for their service and all they do for Portland.
Can I ask that you join me in expressing gratitude for their service? If you have a moment, please contact our police chief to share your support. I know it'd mean a lot to all our officers and professional staff, in light of recent events.
Gratefully,
