After a long period of awful things happening, I'm close to getting back to my old style again. Made this during a night of inspiration. Really struck me well, honestly.

Dame Yvette #art #digitalart #oc
A portrait of Dame Yvette.
A tall imposing woman usually clad in black armor, but this is more of a casual attire she has (as casual as it can get).
There is a black crown adorn on the chest, perhaps symbolizing the kingdom or army she is part of.
She is holding her black axe, battle worn but still sharp, despite its size too it has cleaved down many foes.

She has her usual stoic expression but it seems to be that she is taking admiration within for just being asked what she is up too.

The way her eyes are looking suggest that she is rather tall and is looking down at the viewer

Panel 1: Shen is stoically holding up a sign with his right hand that says "W O R C E S T E R" on it.

Panel 2: A man clearly from Boston, in a black Red Sox cap and Bruins jersey and holding a Market Basket bag slung over his shoulder, says "WOOSTER!" Under the cap, he has messy brown hair, and is smiling innocently.

Panel 3: Shen, still stoic, now holds up a picture of a rooster with both hands.

Panel 4: The man from Boston smile lights up, sparkles in his eyes, and says "ROOCHESTER!!!"

A lot of modern/post-modern artists do art different, but they’re willing to put themselves out there and play with the medium. Can it fail? Perhaps, but nothing ventured nothing gained, right? And in the end you could always walk away, as everyone does with all art - even the good ones.

Eye Of Semicolon @eyeofsemicolon.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
There has always been a barrier between the artist and the audience, and no amount of art class will truly fix it. Artists are people who were willing to spend their time and energy making something for all sorts of reasons, but we only see the results. Years of effort seen only for a moment.

Eye Of Semicolon @eyeofsemicolon.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
Hilariously this is part of the reason why modern/post-modern art even came to being. Artists/philosophers wanted to question the audiences love for art and see, through much experimentation, what could still be seen as art. You may dislike the results, but at least they were willing to try.

Eye Of Semicolon @eyeofsemicolon.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
I guess I dislike the way people disguise their interests in art. People waffle on about how great old art is but don’t really know or understand why. It looks pretty, and that’s where the interest ends. Appreciation is only ever skin-deep, and we treat art as some mindless activity an artist does.
100
Eye Of Semicolon @eyeofsemicolon.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
So I think it’s as fair to say “I could do that” with the old artists, it’s just we made a wordless agreement that that’d be disrespectful - though not so for today’s artists, apparently. And I get it, some art isn’t good and theoretically they can be easier - but in the end, they made it at all.
100
Eye Of Semicolon @eyeofsemicolon.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
Does this make those artists lesser? No, it’s just they changed the medium and were worth remembering - but there were many artists back then who are forgotten to time. It’s not like the past holds exclusively all the good artists. We built ourselves on their contributions and improve onwards.
100
Eye Of Semicolon @eyeofsemicolon.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
However it’s poor taste to do so, because we respect old masters of art. However that doesn’t really matter - there’s artists today who make art for video games and comics who showcase more technical and artistic skill than older artists. Even a cover for a 40K book is impressive.
100
Eye Of Semicolon @eyeofsemicolon.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
However it goes further because, when you really think about it, there’s nothing stopping you from doing any art. Aside from time and practice there’s no barrier to replicating a DaVinci or a Rembrandt, so why not say that about them? I could it too, with time and effort, in fact I have done it.
100
Eye Of Semicolon @eyeofsemicolon.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
A rant, but I despise the phrase “I could do that” in relation to art - often when it comes to modern/postmodern art. Aside from it being rude it’s also a non-criticism. If you could do it then you otherwise would’ve done it - virtually nothing is stopping you from replicating a work of art.

Wanna be smart? Apply metacognition and scientific method to your daily life (aka being wrong without crashing out). If you think being wrong about things is existential, then you're just an overevolved troglodyte that neurally misfires mild disagreements with sabertooths.

Panel 1: An alien woman with green skin, red spiky hair, and a yellow jumpsuit with holes on the shoulders and a white 'spade' pattern on the top, is crossing his arms and has her eyes closed and her brow furrowed in frustration. She says "Why is it that whenever there's a fictional alien species..."

Panel 2: She uncrosses her arms and leans and gestures to the side with them, continuing to say "Only the MALE looks like an actual ALIEN."

Panel 3: She places her hands on her hips and looks forward angrily, and says "The FEMALE just looks like a CUTE HUMAN GIRL!"

Panel 4: Shen is a what looks like a green tardigrade with a little red helicopter that it's using to suspend itself in the air, wearing pants on its last 2 limbs of the same colorscheme as the alien girl. He says "Sis I don't exactly wanna look like this either."

I like the color coding here. Not just because it feels like a character select for an arcade beat-em-up, but the colors feel appropriate for the visual style of combat. Blue is more noble; red is aggressive; and green being more heavy. Cant explain how/why, but they feel nicely matching. Excellent.

I’m reminded of a comment that said that the majority of the discussion around those with autism is based on when they have problems - that all they’re known for is being traumatized and reacting in kind. There are people with autism who live functioning, good lives - but nobody looks to them.

Panel 1: Shen is standing between 2 artists is red French berets on. The artists don't have any detail, they are just generic smiling figures. Shen is look nervously to his right and sweating, his hands up a bit. He thinks "I don't belong here with these legit artists!"

Panel 2: Shen tightly closes his eyes and clenches his fists, looking down a bit. The background turns a wavy purple and magenta. He thinks "NO. RELAX. It's just IMPOSTER SYNDROME."

Panel 3: Shen looks up triumphantly, blowing steam from his nose, sparkles in his eyes. The background turns a bright yellow with sharp orange sparkles emanating from the center. He thinks "YEAH! THEY >>ALL<< PROBABLY FEEL >>JUST LIKE I DO!!<<"

Panel 4: We return to Shen standing between the two other artists with a determined expression and his fists clenched. One of the artists looks at the other while pointing at Shen and says "We should kill this imposter."

“[modern blockbuster movie] is the worst thing ever in the history of filmmaking!”, oh yeah? Have you ever seen “The Haunting of Sharon Tate”? That movie was awful, and nothing recently has come close to that or anything else I’ve seen. There have been worse, for actual reasons.

I think what helped me build a more fair and clear-minded approach to film was the October film marathons I had where I watched nothing but horror films - a lot of them being bad. It helped me understand what truly made for bad filmmaking, and thus temper my feelings/opinions about all movies.

He could capture it all visually (for all his faults he is one of the best visual directors in the industry), but I think he’d need to be reign in on the source material. He captures tones fine but his own flavor of presentation can go too over the top unless you’re fine with that.

Sometimes we need to have this conversation on how we approach art: Do we see art as something that needs to appeal to as many people as possible, breaks metrics, like content? Because I believe art should be raw, intimate, pure, & resonant to both the artist and the audience.

What got to me the most was the usage of a audio system to track the pops of sound that the carbon fiber material made as it dove deeper into the ocean, the building pressure tearing every chord of the sub’s structure. It’s crazy how loud and scary they got, yet we’re brushed to the side.

Recently watched the “Titan” documentary on the OceanGate sub, which more focused on the corporate side instead of the tragedy itself - a side that I didn’t know of as much. Watching it felt like seeing a tale of hubris slowly unraveling towards its inevitable conclusion.

When you start comparing yourself to others, you stop creating. You become a slave to perfectionism, chasing the dragon’s tail. And when the passion fades, all that remains is pain. And to survive that pain, you sharpen it. Turn it into venom. You start tearing others down.

Bringing back this old classic I've had saved for a long while now.
A comic featuring a young man with a butterfly on his hand that reads:

"I met a butterfly the other day. I was just hanging out in the backyard, about to mow the lawn, when a monarch butterfly flew over and landed on my finger. I asked him what he wanted. And he said 'Bring back 80's speed metal.'"A continuation of the comic from the previous image with the butterfly flying off and the man raising his hand with metal horns, saying at the bottom "I truely feel like I was visited by an angel that day."
