EYALondon has had the privilege of connecting with Newcomer ECEs in the #LdnOnt community. We are grateful to stand and act in solidarity with them.
Black text on a white background that reads Important terms: PERMANENT RESIDENCY (PR) - Someone with PR immigrated to and can live, work or study anywhere in Canada, but is not a Canadian citizen. ONTARIO IMMIGRANT NOMINEE PROGRAM (OINP) - The OINP recognizes and nominates people for PR who have skills and experience valued by the Ontario government, but the Canadian government makes the final decision on PR approval. DRAWS - PR candidates apply in rounds throughout the year, this is called a draw. DRAW SCORES - PR candidates are chosen based on a points ranking system. *ECEs who have completed required post-secondary education, are registered with College of Early Childhood Educators and are working in the field are not ranked high enough for most draws (without additional university degrees). The EYA London logo is in the bottom right corner of the slide.Black text on a white background that reads Did you know: The Ontario ECEC sector is in a critical labour shortage. More than 50% of the ECEC workforce in London, ON came here as international students. Newcomer RECEs worked through COVID19 shutdowns and kept our children safe. Provincially, these same Ontario newcomer ECEs have been excluded from draws for permanent residency (PR) and fear losing everything. Dedicated and passionate newcomer RECEs are being forced to leave Ontario for provinces that already offer direct streams to PR for ECEs. Federally, PM Carney’s proposed Bill C-2 promises to make access to PR even more difficult to obtain and opens the door to potential deportation. The EYA London logo is in the bottom right corner of the slide.

Reading is vital to our advocacy work with children, colleagues, and families. Check out what we’re reading! Being You: A @first_conversations about Gender. Written by Megan Madison and Jessica Rally, illustrated by Anne/Andy Passchier, published by Rise x Penguin Workshop in 2022.
Black text on a white background that reads What We’re Reading, the cover of Being You by Megan Madison and Jessica Rally, illustrated by Anne/Andy Passchier is below the text. The EYA London logo is in the top right corner of the slide.
Black text on a white background that reads: Author Bio MEGAN MADISON and JESSICA RALLI are co-authors First Conversations, an award-winning series of anti-bias books for young children and their grown-ups. Megan is a political educator and a lifelong student of radical Black feminism with a PhD in Social Policy. Jessica is the Early Literacy Programs Coordinator at Brooklyn Public Library. She has an M.A. in Early Childhood Special Education and has taught in museums, schools, and libraries.
ANNE/ANDY PASSCHIER is an illustrator and author from the Netherlands and currently living in France. Their work focuses on inclusivity, positivity and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. In 2022, they wrote and illustrated Gender Identity For Kids, a middle grade chapter book explaining the basics of gender identity to kids, caregivers, and teachers alike.
Black text on a White background that reads: Book Synopsis While young children are avid observers and questioners of their world, adults often shut down or postpone conversations on complicated topics because it's hard to know where to begin. This second book in the series begins the conversation on gender, with a supportive approach that considers both the child and the adult. Stunning art accompanies the simple and interactive text, and the backmatter offers additional resources and ideas for extending this discussion. An image from page 7 of Being You is below the text, depicting a smiling parent with brown skin holding twin babies with brown skin in their lap the text reads When a baby is born, grown-ups might say “it’s a girl” if their body has a vagina or “it’s a boy” if their body has a penis. Sometimes grown-ups aren’t sure but they chose the words “girl” or “boy” anyway.

The Ontario Greens have released their 2025 provincial election platform. Childcare is a provincial election issue, so what are they saying about it? What is their plan to support our sector? These slides outline the specific promises and general statements about childcare from their platform.
White text on a black background that reads The Ontario Greens have released their 2025 provincial election platform. What does it say about childcare? There is a stylized graphic of a black deciduous leaf above the textWhite text on a black background with the Ontario Greens logo centred at the top. The text reads Childcare specific promises: Work with the federal government to ensure adequate continued funding for universal access to high-quality, $10-a-day childcare in all communities; Address the critical shortage and retention of early childhood educators by immediately increasing wages for child care workers through the implementation of a publicly funded wage grid that ensures child care providers have the funds available to pay fair, equitable wages, benefits and pensions while also being able to provide quality care; Accelerate program expansion through access to funding and planning grants for non-profit centres that wish to expand in regions in which more care is neededWhite text on a black background with the Ontario Greens logo centred at the top. The text reads Create a province-wide child care plan that is proactive, publicly managed, predictable and integrated that provides targeted investments and expansions in areas without adequate care that includes clear goals and timelines, especially for underserved communities; Cancel the planned cut of $85.5 million and cost-share changes imposed on municipalities; Provide adequate funding to ensure the survival of before- and after-school care, including added supports for children with special needs.White text on a black background with the Ontario Greens logo centred at the top. The text reads General comments on childcare: Make community consultation more inclusive “For example, engaging people in community locations that they frequent such as coffee shops or transit stops, or providing childcare to ensure broader community participation” Cut your taxes and make the richest pay their fair share “We can also build affordable housing, improve public transit and open more affordable childcare spaces.” Affordable child care for every family that needs it “Every family in the province that needs affordable child care should be able to access it. But today, that is not a reality.”

We know #childcare is a provincial election issue, but unfortunately we were only able to find children and daycares mentioned in reference to proximity to Safe Consumption Sites on the @ontariopcparty.bsky.social election website.
White text on a black background that reads our search of items relating to the 2025 provincial election on the Ontario PC party website found that children and *daycares were mentioned in reference to proximity to Safe Consumption Sites and in a statement from a supporter referencing building "an Ontario fit for our children and grandchildren". *Daycare is a term often used synonymously with childcare. The Ontario Progressive Conservative logo is centred above the text and there is a stylized graphic of a white deciduous leaf above it.
