Today is the 179th anniversary of Neptune's discovery. I first 'discovered' the outermost ice planet in 2020. A year later, this is the best image I've taken of it (so far)! #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social
Neptune captured in September 2021. Using a Dobsonian 200mm telescope, C5 colour planetary cam, 2xBarlow & heavily cropped. It's a tiny blur, not a full disk but ok for 8/9 sec videos of something 2.7 billion miles away through London's night sky

“Weather forecasting is not partisan,” said Representative Mike Flood of Nebraska, one of the bill’s sponsors. Another co-sponsor of this bipartisan legislation is Rep. Eric Sorensen, a former weathercaster from Illinois. #NWS #WxSky

A viewer caught the tail end of a tornado in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains Monday afternoon. This was taken about 12 miles SW of Las Vegas, NM, south of San Geronimo. This is looking NE towards Las Vegas. #NMwx

New Mexico tree deaths double in 2024 according to the New Mexico Forestry Division. Insects and a warming climate were the driving factors. Burn scar areas were also significant causes for insect activity and tree mortality. Press release: tinyurl.com/4weba7xc

Completing a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification, as there's a non-zero chance I'm first on a scene with storm chasing and general adventuring. Course is really pushing my limits - the trauma section was tough - but the antidote to fear is knowledge. #WxSky #NewMexico #wilderness

Hey #WxSky! Have any curated feeds emerged for severe days like this? Useful hashtags to follow along beyond #mswx & other state hashtags? Bluesky has so much more #stormchaser potential than the closed world of X. Sucks to get a link with vital public info and be unable to see without an account.
