I'm pleased to say I bucked this trend. My father and grandfather were bald by the time they were 30. Kept mine well into my 50s.

I was thinking of Carl Norden and the Norden bombsight. However, that didn't win the war, and Norden was more arsehole than geek, really.

22 were tried at the IMT (including in absentia, Bormann, now known to have been dead at the time). 12 were sentenced to death.

It's a mistake to think that Nuremberg was the only location where Nazi war crimes were tried or that even the International Military Tribunal (which tried, amongst others, Goering) was the only such trial at Nuremberg.

There was some meme floating around during his first presidency that we just place him in a fake White House to issue fake executive orders for 4 years. I swear this fits into this narrative.

So Trump gets told, "You've won, Sir", and the rest of the world just gets on with what it was doing.

It is rare for diplomatic immunity to be waived by a sending state and the US almost never does so. This does not stop it from requesting it from other countries (and sometimes being granted it, eg, after a Georgian diplomat's fatal DUI crash in 2017).

Both myths serve the interests of the two men. We should not amplify them.

Expat Cat @expatcat.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
By sharing this sort of message, we are promulgating the myth that they are more competent and intelligent than they are, in addition to the one that it is easy to cheat at American elections.

Expat Cat @expatcat.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
The trouble with posting this is that your only evidence that these men cheated at an election is the word of these men themselves, and these men are known liars.

The individual did not even need to be extradited—the State Department could have waived diplomatic immunity to allow the diplomat to be prosecuted in the receiving country where the alleged offence occurred.

Just to point out, the US as the sending country was perfectly able to waive diplomatic immunity to allow a prosecution to take place — but chose not to.

I'm convinced that this is just a big a reason for the tariffs as any (misplaced) economic claims: Tariffs give Trump discretionary power, and he likes being the sort of guy who can use govt power on a whim to impress people (in this case), or in return for other favors.

Sometimes that involves telling the truth, and sometimes it involves telling lies. The important thing to remember is that, for Trump, there is no difference between the two in his head. (2/2)

I asked this question on a skeptical thinkers' board once ("Does Trump genuinely believe his own bullshit?"), and the best answer was that: Trump neither lies nor tells the truth. Rather, Trump simply says whatever he thinks he needs to say to "win" at that point. (1/2).

Ah: Percy Jocelyn, found in bed with a Guardsman. Thomas John Capel, numerous affairs. Edward Drax Free, mass pornographer. Henry James Prince, led a sex cult. William Ewart Ryan, gross indecency, absconded. John Froud, drunkard who mixed with "ladies of dubious morals". Edward Fitch, "impropriety".

Victorian clergy had it even easier. Just turn up to church once a week and read a sermon from a pre-printed book of the things. No wonder they all became scientists, dog breeders, artists, authors, you name it.
