It's a good bit of fun, allowed by the fact the football pyramid goes really deep in the English/Scottish/Welsh league systems. Once you're a few tiers down and below the fully professional level (from tier 6), sponsorships aren't that expensive. I think the US equivalent is minor league baseball?

A graph of taxpayer population by taxable incomes. It's a generally exponentially declining chart as income increases, but with big bumps at £50k and £100k where cliff edges distort incentives

A bunch of the chuds did not play the 1st game I'm sure, 2 blew up more than the first one. Basically this woman appears at points in the campaign and there was the usual chud crywanking over how she's got a scar etc.

It's not anti-vax in the UK, this is Boots, Britain's biggest Pharmacy chain advertising flu vaccinations. I actually remember seeing it somehow travel over into US anti-vax circles in 2021ish, because the UK was the first place to vaccinate anyone for covid, I think the term spread.

Country absolutely overflowing with renewables today as it's both sunny and windy. grid.iamkate.com
Chart of energy generation in Great Britain. Currently 9.9% Gas, 35.8% Solar, 57.4% Wind, 0.4% Hydro, 9.5% Nuclear & 2.2% Biomass. This totals over 100% of demand - we're exporting 12% of demand to neighbours such as Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands & Norway. There is still some import from France (as French nuclear is very cheap).
3.1% of demand is being used by pumped storage power schemes pumping water uphill.

Annoyingly we mostly have casement windows on hinges, which are the worst for fitting AC to. A lot of them have a gap on all four sides of the window when opened. But it's doable - I have a portable unit with one of those fabric/plastic window kits around my home office casement window right now.

I don't think many people understand the scale of these things now - offshore wind turbines are skyscraper sized heavy engineering. The latest models are 260m from sea to the top of the turbine blade.

I'm British! I wish more people knew about this but it seems to be going under the radar, especially because a lot of it is huge offshore wind farms that no one sees. Some of the projects commissioning now are 1.2GW - about equivalent to a large nuclear reactor, or two smaller reactors.

One of the things that made me realise how race categories are a social construct, is how the UK and US censuses have completely different categories for recording it that don't really map at all.

Biggest is wind, but gas is just below wind and nuclear about 16%. Also smaller amounts of hydro, biomass and solar. Solar and wind continuing to grow rapidly, gas going down, nuclear will remain about the same (building 4 reactors by 7 smaller due to close) We're world leader in offshore wind.

Here in the UK we built our own designs up until about 1990, they're gas-cooled and nothing to do with the BWR/PWR design. Yes it is the giant reactor bigger twice the size of the RBMK in this diagram.

It's actually massively dropped in the last 5 years, though still pricier than onshore. Drop is mostly because the turbines went from 5-8 MW to 14-15 MW. It's worth having here in Northern Europe where we're a bit pressed for space on land, dark half the year, but have plenty of shallow windy seas!

It's the usual whining right wing outrage. There was a public consultation and the public chose wildlife over any other option. We already have animals on the latest set of coins! They'd have done the same whining over the choice of people if the decision was to use historical figures again.

5 pence is a tiny round silver coin with an oak leaf
10 pence is a large round silver coin with a grouse
20 pence is a small heptagonal silver coin with a puffin
50 pence is a large heptagonal silver coin with an atlantic salmon
1 pound is a small 20-sided bimetallic coin (silver inside, golden outside) with native bees
2 pound is a large round bimetallic coin (silver inside, golden outside) with the national flowers of all four UK nations sprouting from a single root, the rose for England, the thistle for Scotland, the Daffodil for wales and the shamrock for Northern Ireland.
