It's just a ploy so he can sell a golden dictionary with his name on it next year. It will contain the newest and best words, like no other dictionary in history has ever had.

Great story, thanks. I wonder how Vitaly's plans on doing his shtick in Europe are going to work out for him. The European country I grew up in doesn't even allow you to film people and then publish this without their consent, but I guess it'll depend on the country.

I envision a case in which a potential stalker is interested in a random person they see in a cafe on a regular basis, but they don't know much about them. Now, using facial recognition, it would allow them to get actual personal information. It enables the stalker.

Man, you could also just say 500%, or 600% lighter. “People understand that better,”, “[] they're two ways of calculating” and “either way, it doesn't make any difference.” (from "Introduction to Trump Math, 1st edition)

He has a "special" relationship with Ivanka, though. About her he said: "If Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her." And: "She's really something, and what a beauty, that one. If I weren’t happily married and, ya know, her father..."

What I'd kinda want to see here in Oregon is an ALDI store. I wonder if they're planning to expand into the West Coast regions.

This is incredible. The new NASA image release from #Artemis includes a sequence of 'Hello World' still photographs. I've been processing / animating them and here's what the original didn't show us: Satellites, including their solar arrays, lightning storms and dancing aurora!

What a crazy story. In the meantime, my neighbors in a more wealthy enclave of Portland can nonchalantly blow all the leaves of their property right into the street starting early fall, and then a month later (2'' deep mud by now) we have a free leaf-pickup day that the $693 probably subsidize.

In addition to that, I had to pay brokerage fees when ordering a small item from Canada. UPS isn't going to pay me back those fees even if they'd refund the tariff part, I'm guessing.

Seems like this administration is running a large-scale experiment on the Dunning Kruger effect. They only forgot to include a stable control group of actual experts.

It's annoying that WhatsApp is so prevalent in Europe. The only reason I have it installed on my phone here in the US is to communicate with family and friends in Europe. I see Signal as a much better alternative, despite it being US-based. But getting anyone to move there has been impossible.

The data speaks for itself:
A graph in xkcd style titled 'ADVERTISING REVENUE PROJECTIONS (based on two data points six seconds apart)'. Two red dots sit at the origin representing $0 revenue at Tuesday 10:00:00 AM and $3,000 revenue at Tuesday 10:00:06 AM. A bold blue line labeled 'Best fit line (n=2, R²=1.0)' connects them and rockets upward to $102 BILLION by 2030. The caption reads 'The data speaks for itself'. The line is technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.

Both men said they would be open to voting for a Democrat for Congress this November. And for the first time in 20 years, a Democratic primary will be held in their district, a sign that the party believes it has a chance to flip what has been a solidly Republican seat.

But the past year has been a series of disappointments. There were the immigration raids. The killings of 2 U.S. citizens in Minneapolis. (Tim: “You can’t have masked thugs go out and kill citizens. Not in our country.”) And then, the war in Iran. (Joel: “He said he wouldn’t do war. And he did it.”)

Quote from the article: [..,] In past elections, he voted party line for Republicans. He voted for Donald J. Trump in 2024, as did his father, a choice that, for both men, was part muscle memory, part dislike of the Democratic candidate.
