A very HAPPY 91st BIRTHDAY to Apollo 16 LMP Charlie Duke! Born #OTD, October 3, 1935 and the youngest man to walk on the Moon. Charlie was always so generous with his time when I was working on the book and I feel so blessed to call him a friend. Happy Birthday Charlie.

60 years ago TODAY! Highest Earth orbit achieved by humans - Gemini XI - a record that stood until only 2 years ago (broken narrowly by Polaris Dawn) An obsessive amount of research determined that this stunning photo, not the one commonly shared, was from apogee We can see Gordon's hand reflected

60 years ago TODAY! - Gemini XI 🚀 Ever since, this underexposed photo (left) was labelled by NASA as showing Dick Gordon during EVA. Now digitally remastered from the original film for #GeminiAndMercuryRemastered, a rather surprised Pete Conrad is revealed during the same EVA!

This is not #scifi - it's a photograph taken by one of us, on this day in 1971, during Apollo 15. It also happens to be one of the fine art prints an Apollo Moonwalker (I can't say which one) ordered from my website and had framed for his wall at home - an absolute beauty!

#OTD 1971. Apollo 15, EVA-3. Capcom: "Dave, give me a call on your present activity." Scott: "Oh, just cleaning up the back of the rover here, a little." In fact, Scott was secretly placing a memorial - the fallen astronaut and plaque, seen behind the rover in this two-shot panorama from the book:

Driving on the Moon, #OTD in 1971 - Apollo 15. This photo (enhanced and cropped) is probably the clearest of the LRV instrument panel on the Moon - check out those dials! No touchscreens or software updates, just pure, rugged analog hardware built for off-planet roving!

Apollo 11. Rarely seen shot of Eagle, the Moon and Earthrise, taken on this day, July 21, 1969. Mike Collin's alternate photo is extremely well known, but this one - shown remastered and cropped - is an absolute beauty!

#OTD in 1969 - Apollo 11 This exceptional photograph (AS11-40-5902) by Neil Armstrong, showing Buzz Aldrin, the leg of Eagle and those crisp first footprints on another world, rarely gets seen, because the very next shot on the roll is arguably the most famous photograph of the 20th century.

How many still photographs show Michael Collins during the entire Apollo 11 mission - one of the most important voyages in human history? ONE! And it's massively underexposed (L). Here's the remastered version from #ApolloRemastered (R). Original photo by Buzz Aldrin #OTD July 16, 1969

Very sad to hear the news of the passing of the great David Hockney today. A true icon of British art. It was certainly an honour to witness his priceless reaction to the Apollo Remastered panoramas at our Moonwalkers show opening night in London a couple of years ago. Ad astra🙏

60 years ago TODAY - Gemini IX-A "The spacewalk from hell" - Gene Cernan. Everything went wrong and he was fortunate to escape with his life, but he did take some truly stunning photographs! This light damaged shot, now remastered, is a glorious portrait of the Gemini spacecraft.

TODAY! - 60th anniversary of Gemini IX-A Deke Slayton, privately to Tom Stafford at suit up: "[If Cernan dies during the EVA, bring him home] we just can't afford to have a dead astronaut floating around in space." What actually transpired was extraordinary. Blow-by-blow account in #GeminiRemastered

#OTD in 1969, Apollo 10 returned to Earth setting the record for the highest speed humans have ever traveled (a record #Artemis II didn't break). The Command Module can be seen here in lunar orbit, and you can now see it on display in the new Space gallery at London's @sciencemuseum.org.uk

For those actually interested in this UFO / UAP stuff from the DoW / Pentagon, I've identified the Apollo 17 photograph in question: Here's a zoom of the relevant area taken from a full-res scan of the original camera film (same scans I used for my book, but no, this particular one isn't in it):

This is incredible. The new NASA image release from #Artemis includes a sequence of 'Hello World' still photographs. I've been processing / animating them and here's what the original didn't show us: Satellites, including their solar arrays, lightning storms and dancing aurora!

Stunning new detail from the #Artemis eclipse photographs. With 12,000 new images to go through, I've combined two superb shots from a series taken during the eclipse, then processed the output (non-AI) to produce this absolute beauty.

On the 65th anniversary of the first American in space. LOOK CLOSELY - Alan Shepard is strapped into 'Freedom 7' atop his Redstone rocket, waiting to make history. His heart rate quickened as the hatch was closed and bolted shut. (From the book, Gemini & Mercury Remastered)

Human-made tracks on the Moon - Feb 5, 1971. Apollo 14's Lunar Module, Antares is bathed by the low Sun, which also illuminates the tracks made by the MET (Modular Equipment Transporter). Alan Shepard and Edgar Mitchell pulled the two-wheeled MET along the lunar surface.

The Earth and the Moon aren't the only interesting things in this photograph, taken 54 years ago today - April 20, 1972. Apollo 16's Charlie Duke and John Young were in the Lunar Module when Charlie captured this wonderful shot. Ken Mattingly is in the other spacecraft seen orbiting the Moon.

Wait for it to focus... Sound up... Earthset, recorded by Reid Wiseman during the Artemis II lunar flyby. The initial imperfect composition, and the phone hunting for focus makes this so much more human and familiar. A celestial scene witnessed by only 28 of us in history...more

#OTD in 1970, the Apollo 13 crew got their first glimpse of the damage caused by the explosion that occurred 200,000 miles from Earth. The recent Artemis II mission helps us comprehend the gravity of the situation. NASA got the crew home alive. Here's my photographic analysis of the damage:

Two weeks today, already. The launch of Artemis II from near the VAB 🚀 SOUND UP! The nerves, the excitement, the joy, the promise of what was to come. Who else would turn back the clock and relive the last two weeks? (Possibly some debris at 14 second mark, bottom left?)

This was taken in the shadow of the Moon by the crew of Artemis II. The Sun's light was blocked, revealing a sky bursting with stars and our own Milky Way. A view of the universe rarely seen by human eyes. Nikon Z9, 35mm lens, 10sec exposure.

Some of this new imagery is uncannily familiar. Bottom image: representing the end of the Apollo program - Earthset on the final Apollo mission (Apollo 17). Top image: representing the start of a new era - Earthrise on the first crewed Artemis mission (Artemis II).

As soon as this first, stunning crescent Earth photo landed from Artemis II yesterday, it reminded me of one of the finest Earth shots from project Apollo - taken during the uncrewed Apollo 4 The composition - two eras uniting, making one Earth sprang to mind - but can Artemis help unite the world?

JUST IN! The first photograph on board Artemis II! Christina Koch (the first woman to completely escape Earth) is left, as Jeremey Hansen (the first non-American to do so) admires the view from the window. It's taken with the wide angle lens but looks so much roomier than the Apollo Command Module.
