@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 4hWhen Zak loses the election and is deposed as leader I am sure the faction that have infiltrated the party will have someone in mind to take his place. Watch out for the membership application from comrade Corbyn. 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 4hIt is less of an issue now. It was a big problem when the EU first accepted applications from Eastern European States. Even then if Blair had used the same transition arrangements as all other countries it would have been much less of a problem but he totally underestimated the level of migration. 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 5hWhat a brilliant choice. I hope they know that now they have got their first greyhound they will have more. 010
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 12hI have seen poor parents who would give their last penny to feed their children. I have also seen parents in receipt of benefits who would let their children starve while they spend their last penny on their own addiction or entertainment. I would give food aid to both sets of children not cash. 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 16hWhy would I be concerned. It’s not my taxes they are not spending. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 17hI do not begrudge opportunity. I begrudge paying for those who do not take the opportunity when offered. 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 17hThe same as children of drug addicts or child abusers. We do whatever the law allows to protect the children. How do you ensure that cash handed out to parents gets spent on the children? 200
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 19hIt just seems to be a familiar pattern of behaviour but it’s not my party they are out to subvert. It’s up to members of the Green Party to decide if their party dies or survives. 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 19hI am certain that there are many youngsters today who work every bit as hard as some of my generation. I have been treated by them in hospital and I am sure they will one day become angry about having to support those who don’t want to work as they do. Inter generational strife is nothing new. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I yearn for the same every time I have to fill the petrol tank in my car. Please don’t let the world down the next time you vote for a leader of the free world. Even if you don’t particularly like the sane candidate hold your nose and vote for him or her. It’s only a vote not a proposal of marriage 040
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I worked shifts for most of my working life. Starts at 7 am and 11 pm. It didn’t matter whether I liked it or not. If I wanted to pay the mortgage it had to be done. I also felt a certain pride in upholding a Scottish Presbyterian Work Ethic which may help explain my dislike of fecklessness 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Ask Jeremy Corbyn. It’s his supporters who are behind this. The Labour Party threw them out and they had to find another party to infiltrate because they are savvy enough to realise that they need an established mainstream party to hide amongst and gradually get themselves into positions of power. 110

@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Doddie made it to the evening news. They must have included him because he looks so happy. Really that is his greyhound happy face. 050
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Individuals and businesses should pay their taxes. Corporations evading tax is as bad as people working in the black economy to dodge the tax nan 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I don’t understand. I want the government to take less tax from everybody and hand out less to everybody including corporations. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Abbi and Doddie had a trip to Edinburgh today for a multi faith pet blessing in Greyfriars Kirk and afterwards paid their respects at the grave of Greyfriars Bobby. 1111
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026That worked in the days when the only way to move funds was in a suitcase through customs. Now funds can zoom round the world at the touch of a button and that’s not even considering cryptocurrency. 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Government will eventually tax robots. AI will teach the robots to fight back against unfair taxation and they will enslave us all. 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026If there was a world wide common tax rate you could squeeze Besos for a bit more but so long as he can take his wealth and move it to a low tax country the only people you can squeeze is us in the middle who can’t relocate and who are fed up supporting millionaires and the feckless idle. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026But where does the money come from in the first place. If the government can afford to hand out $500 to everybody it would be much better to let everybody keep $500 more of their own money rather than taking it from them in tax. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I still think that making people dependent on state handouts is a way of controlling them. UBI would require the state to collect much more tax than they do now and they will only be able to do that if they also control the means of producing that tax in the first place. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026That is encouraging to hear that millionaires will be allowed to become millionaires. All I have heard up to now from Greens and Socialists is Tax the Rich. If you are happy to not demonise people who create wealth you might end up with more enlightened employers and happier workers. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026But the end result for the economy is the same. UBI is a way of distributing other people’s income to those who do not earn wages. Being paid by the state to do a job that does not need you is the same as being paid not to work at all. It was a way of keeping a population reliant on the government. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I certainly do not like the Gordon Brown idea of topping up wages with benefits. I prefer tax rebates to allow people to keep a bigger slice of what they earn. That way hard work is recognised by the state and non tax payers derive no benefit from the state. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026What incentive does an employer have to create a business in the first place if all that is going to happen is that they will be taxed to the limit to provide an income for people who produce nothing or provide no service to society? 200
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I am sure you would. A population who rely on the government to provide their income are much easier to control. East Germany had full employment but the waiting list for a new car was 7 years. It was not a universal income but the effect of artificially making jobs where none existed was similar. 200
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Who cares about the spelling. Is a great word to throw into a conversation. 130
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026The office of national Statistics could point them towards the 700,000 vacancies they say exist. 110
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026You are assuming that all those sitting at home on benefits are just bursting with enthusiasm to go out and work. That is no more true than saying everybody is unemployed by choice. There are both types to deal with needing jobs for those who want to work and sanctions for those that don’t. 500
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 04/10/2026We are talking about Zak Polanski who can’t remember to pay his council tax, who he worked for or whether or not his great grandparents had to flee the Nazis so I would not be so sure he has thought of anything beyond the sound bite. 110
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026No we give them the chance not to fail. If they don’t take the chance what then? The plan to give them all a first job is not a bad idea it’s just incomplete if there is no mention of sanctions or costs. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026They will take the jobs. I do not question capabilities. They are easy to measure. What employers value is commitment. If they can demonstrate that they will thrive. If they can’t eventually somebody has to say take responsibility for yourself. 301
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026The point I am trying to make is that pledging a job for every 16 to 24 year olds is easy. Getting some 16 to 24 year olds to take the jobs is a different matter. Why does Polanski shy away from saying if you don’t take the jobs there will be no benefits. 200
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026What if they don’t like starting work at 07.30 on a freezing winter morning? What happens to their benefits then? 210
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Of course! I now understand why Corbyn was such a popular prime Minister. Nothing for you to worry about. We right wingers should be easy to beat. I am honoured you chose to share your enormous political intellect with us poor souls. Some of us are so thick we even waste our time reading your posts 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026What is the plan if the 18 - 24 year olds don’t like the job you guarantee for them? There are only so many beauty consultant or influencer jobs going. 110
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026It’s good to talk before voting to go or stay. Then we might have a chance to know what we are voting for. 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026The trouble is left wingers always see right wingers as the cause and vice versa. Rachel from accounts clearly didn’t understand the effect of national insurance increases thinking she would only hit rich business owners and not the people they employed. 110
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I never agree to swap my GBP for any other currency until I see what the exchange rate is. And if the SNP get their way we might have a Scottish currency by that time. It might be better if we all used the Canadian Dollar or the Yuan. 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Of course . I am so confused about what the status of Northern Ireland is since Boris and his border down the Irish Sea 000
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Oh! Marvellous a customs border between an independent Scotland in the Eu and an Independent England still outside. It’s the United Kingdom in the Eu or forget it. 100
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026And at least half of that half don’t realise that it will not be the deal that we had before we left but they are still wanting to leap in the dark just like we did when we left. Please let us be more careful this time before buying what is on offer. 120
@BB_Abbi_Brodie @excop.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Half Hingit Maggie. The pub is still there and the tour guides are still telling her story. We will be in the Grassmarket tomorrow to go to the pet blessing at Greyfriars Kirk. 110
