Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 22/01/2026Do they write in the Komi language sometimes? Or is it mostly in Russian? >.> Would be cool if we could make an "ad" with them about Lingonaut, maybe we could even have a Komi course if someone joins us. 110

Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 20/01/2026These words are otherwise unknown of origin >.> Tbh, proto-uralic reconstruction of maa is *mexe (i can't type the accute accent e) 110
Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 20/01/2026So I read up on it more, and it is apperantly related with meder and meddő. 110
Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 20/01/2026mét comes from the original word of kecskemed -> med which means "periodical waterditch" (Kiss 1980) However he doesn't say what it comes from... 🤔 110
Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 20/01/2026For a while I thought that the city named Kecskemét had "mét" in it as the old relictum of the cognate of maa, but alas that is not true 😔 110
Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 20/01/2026I always wondered how Hungarian doesn't have a cognate with ма̄. Northern Mansi wird fir mammoth is ма̄хар, wonder when did they change the word to be this instead of "ма̄ӈа̄ньт" if this was even how it was written. 110
Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 18/01/2026I had an idea on making this booklet in all the Uralic languages that have a translation of the UDHR. If anyone knows where I could find them, outside of Hungarian, Finnish and Estonia, I'd be very happy if they could lend me a hand in collecting them! 000

After death, some souls go to the realm of the dead, while others remain on earth for a certain period of time, where they can harm the bereaved. 131

Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 29/09/2025It was sorta out of respect for the bear, not to call it's name, but yeah haha 000
Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 29/09/2025There is also other names, ню̄рмуй пупакве ӯнтуй то̄рев (nowadays only polar bears) пурнуй ect. There are recorded words in other Mansi varieties, like Eastern (Konda) Mansi: выйяньсих [wɘjænʲsʲix] Or Souther (Tavda) Mansi: tå̄rėŋ or äńšuχ ~ äńčuχ 010
Ewit @ewit.bsky.social · 29/09/2025The original word for bear was avoided so much by the Hungarians, we got the taboo name for it from a slavic language. Northern Mansi had the same, so they don't have the original word for bear neither. They call it во̄рто̄лно̄йка or во̄рто̄лнут "in forest living old man" or "in forest living thing". 210
