This is Oscar Wilde's grave at Pere Lachaise in Paris. They try and keep people away with barriers, but the kisses keep coming. I bet Wilde would be delighted.

Making the rounds & too damn true:
Two panel meme. Top shows fierce Tyrannosaurus rex attack, probably from a "Jurassic Park" movie frame, with text "Democrats fighting Zohran Mamdani." Bottom panel shows Barney, the friendly purple dinosaur from children's television, with text "Democrats Fighting Donald Trump."

This time, I even made a sign myself. Better half carried it, so I could take pix. The pitchfork was a hit. Inspired by sign seen at #OccupyNashville some years back. #Taos #NewMexico #NoKings 7/7
Protest sign shown against the sky, reading "Tax the Rich." The homemade cardboard sign is held aloft by a pitchfork. April 2025 #Taos #NewMexico

I love homemade signs! And there really are signs, and flags, addressing a wide array of issues and problems. #Taos #NewMexico #NoKings 5/
Two people with protest signs. One reads "So much WRONG so little Cardboard" and the other one reads "The Constitution is NOT a Suggestion"

Protest sign, held at 45 degree angle over street from sidewalk, reading "Who Is Kilmar Abrego Garcia? I Am KilMar Abrego Garcia!" A bit of a Spartacus moment.

He's into VIP skyboxes for any sport. Trumps met Hope Hicks at Superbowl box. Consciously or not, he's after personal glory at events reminiscent of Hitler's 1936 Olympics and the famous rally at Nuhrenburg. My bet: He'll be side by side with Putin, perhaps others, at the LA Olympics 2026.

You get a lot more characters for alt text, 2000 to be exact. See this pic of mine for an example. (Can't fit the whole alt text here, it's too long. After I did use alt text, I checked other pix from Apr 5 and found that hardly anyone used alt text. I consider that to be a missed opportunity.
Shows passenger side of car with person holding out sign reading "Clean Up On Aisle 47" during #HandsOff demonstration in Taos, NM on April 5, 2025. It was snowing out so some demonstrators drove through to participate. Beyond the car are demonstrators on the sidewalk showing signs with letters too small to read. US Hwy 64, the main road through the center of town, is under construction/maintenance so the demonstration was along the crowded detour along Camino de la Placita near the Town Hall and Fire Department instead. Traffic was pretty dense and horns were blaring, perhaps for various reasons. It was more than a little chaotic. Lots of energy. Keep your signs everybody, I have a feeling we'll be needing them again!

Homemade blue sign laying on gravel ground, two images showing front and back. Top half shows is front, reading "Deport Yourself to Russia" with the R mirror reversed like Cyrillic alphabet. Bottom half is reverse, a recycled sign from Obama campaign 2008 reading New Mexico slogan "Obamanos" intended to men "let's go!" People made their signs from whatever they had around the house. Keep your signs everybody, I have a feeling you'll be needing them again!Man holding sign, two pictures together showing front and back. Back of sign has a gigantic U with the words "Utah Bound" above and below. His son goes to University of Utah and he had the sign around the house. On the front is what he put for the #HandsOff demonstration. Against a red background, there's a cartoon-like drawing of Elon Musk, almost like a mug shot, with the words "I Am Stealing From You". Three stickers are attached to the sign. In the upper right hand corner, a round sticker shows a green dumpster with flames shooting out and the words "Dump Musk", on the center right is a square sticker reading "Nobody Elected Elon" and along the bottom is a bumper sticker reading "Unfit to Serve, IMPEACH TRUMP" Keep your signs everybody, I have a feeling we'll be needing them again!Man holding sign with four words in a list: Morons Are Governing America. First letters are in red, MAGA, the rest in black. The man came to the demonstration without a sign. This was a gift from someone who was departing. It is snowing out. #HandsOff #Taos #NewMexico April 5, 2025 Keep your signs everybody, I have a feeling we'll be needing them again!Shows passenger side of car with person holding out sign reading "Clean Up On Aisle 47" during #HandsOff demonstration in Taos, NM on April 5, 2025. #Taos #NewMexico #HandsOff There's some story in the alt text for each individual picture, which allows for 2000 characters for each one.
Man holding a sign reading "US Marine Corps 1969 to 1973 HANDS OFF the Freedoms I Fought For <semper fidelis>. He says he's been in Germany, only returning to USA a three weeks ago. Says that Germans are worked up and upset (sounds a lot like Canada) and that he is stunned at what he's seeing going on upon returning home. He had me take some pix of him with his sign to send back to Germany. L to R: Man with dog on leash, dog has sign around its neck reading "I am Smarter Than Him" To their right is an elderly lady in a wheel chair holding a sign reading "Putin is Evil, Europe is our Friend and Ally". It is snowing and they are sheltered at a covered entry to Taos Convention Center I missed getting a picture of the Rottweiler with the sign reading "Hands off the Two Leggeds", there were lots of opinionated dogs out today. I think they might have been objected to the lies about people in Springfield, Ohio "Eating the Dogs" and in fact there was a demonstrator today who yelled through a bullhorn "They're Eating the Dogs" to remind me of Trumps ugly anti-immigrant flare-up last year. #Taos #NewMexico #HandsOff April 5, 2025Man holding a black sign with white letters reading "Honk!" with three small Ukrainian flags attached on top. It is snowing. This road is a detour on Camino de la Placita because US Hwy 64, the main road through town, is under construction. In addition to that congestion, some people demonstrated in their cars so they wouldn't have to be out in the snow; some were seen driving through several times, honking the whole way.Sign with the words "Stomp the Steal" on a large stenciled shoe in the top half, in two shades of gray. Bottom half has the letters M A G A, the As are white trianges with eyeholes reminiscent of Ku Klux Klan and swastikas, the M and G are red. She got the sign from someone who was leaving. I have 12 pix but maybe I can only put 4 at a time? Discovery! Alt text on pix allows 2000 characters, and you can even go back and edit. So I wrote some story there, check it out! These are from today's #HandsOff #Taos #NewMexico
White haired lady holding a chainsaw with sign attached reading "Hands Off!" Taos, New Mexico, April 5, 2025 #HandsOffSign says "So Bad even the Introverts are Out Here!" The introvert holding the sign didn't want to show her face. At the top of the image is part of a public mural showing a woman's face. Location: Taos, NM, April 5, 2025 #HandsOffWoman holding Ukraine flag. It's stained with borscht, not blood. Her face is not showing because she's a naturalized citizen, family from Belarus. Even as a citizen, she feels she needs to be careful so Trump won't deport her to Belarus. She's organized a variety of support activities for Ukraine. Canada flag is her mother in law, to the right is County Commissioner AnJanette Brush.Woman holding unframed painted canvas reading "Hands Off of Our People! you Greedy Slimeballs" Black letters on a purple background. Taos, NM, April 5, 2025. (Taos area has a lot of artists.)

An acquaintance in Canada shared this picture, gave permission to share. From a year ago:
Poem "Oh Rascal Children Of Gaza" by Hkaled Juma, posted publicly in a Toronto neighborhood a year ago. There were still a lot of buildings standing then. Text:
Oh, rascal children of Gaza,
You who constantly distrubed me with your screams under my window,
You who filled every morning with rush and chaos,
You who broke my vase and stole the lonely flower on my balcony,
Come back - -
And scream as you want,
And break all the vases,
Steal all the flowers,
Come back,
Just come back...
You who

Neighbor stopped by today. We bring damaged fruit for his chickens all summer/fall. We got joking about eggs as a rare, in-demand commodity. It's been so warm, his hens are laying a lot and since eggs are scarce & expensive, he brought us some. I feel rich!

If only! Any suggestions what might work for this? This is the worst so far, and I wish I could read it, a letter describing his BG which he kept a copy of, hoping to find a teaching gig in 1859. See reply for what I've gotten from this.

I remember calculators cost $250 which was a lot more back then, more than a whole term's tuition in state university system. College Physics banned them from exams, unfair advantage they said. I've still got this:

I don't understand all of yours, perhaps too techy. A couple things I'd like to be able to do/have: 1. Delete notifications once I've addressed them. 2. I like info when I hover over the name on a quoted post, just like for the one who posted it (e.g. "Kimberly" below, not just Elias & Pear)

IIRC, there are only counties in the entire USA that don't have New Deal projects. I visited one of them, Stewart County, Tennessee, for that reason and found this overlooking the HS football field:
Billboard next to school bus. It has a bloody, ominous appearance and bears the words "Jesus Loves You - - - This Much" corresponding with his outstretched arms on the Cross.

Retirement activity: Transcribing correspondence & diaries of gr grandfather dated 1856-1903. He was an abolitionist preacher with horrible penmanship & a depressive personality. It's a slog, but interesting, too. One of several boxes.
