A yellow haired sun fly! This hover fly made very loud bee-like buzzing sound too! Looks scary for sure with its stripes, perhaps the reason it was so nonchalant and let me take a photo. #BugSky #invertebrate #pretty #macro #nature

First homemade tempeh! Lots of mistakes but turned out amazing 😋 #vegan #tenpeh #fungi #fungifriends

A slice of homemade tempeh slice showing garbanzo and rye, steamed and pan-fried to crispy crust with soft center

Four slices of tempeh on the cutting board, shows the garbanzo and rye grains bound by the white mycelium of the Rhyzopus oligosporus mold. Some gray visible as it started sporulating already

I actually like it! The spoiler hidden in front is clever. It’s a 5 seater. It also doesn’t scream mid life crisis 😆 The color is nice on its own, but the reason you think “plastic” is the subconscious association with the iPhone 5c (blue + black color and rounded corners).

INaturalist also suggests genius Xeromphalina, I agree with that. Could be a number of species, they all look quite alike. Perhaps cauticinalis or campsnelloides as they look more yellow than orange?

Shaggy mane mushrooms (coprinus comatus) are still edible when they turn inky. I satay, put them on pizza or if they are too far gone make them into sauce 😋 #fungifriends #fungi #mushrooms #food #nature

A jar of boiled down and blended shaggy manes produces a naturally thickened sauce with intense mushroom flavour

Great photo, but info is wrong. It is not poisonous when it turns black, it is still edible, but could be messy. The flavour actually intensifies. I regularly cook them when old, sometimes I make sauce. Note also that they readily uptake heavy metals so don’t pick near industrial or polluted sites.

It tastes quite bland but its spongy texture is good in absorbing broth ans sauce. For now we stayed and baked then froze most, I just steamed some. I’m thinking of trying it in yellow curry and also in vegetable soup. The steamed slices really look like mozzarella 😄

These are actually young coprinus comatus, a type of inky cap mushrooms and not puffballs. Here’s how they look when older

010

Evtim G @evtim.bsky.social · 13/05/2026

Yes, the shaggy manes (coprinus comatus) are edible. I prefer them when they are young but even cook them when starting to delequesce a little. Watch out where they grow as they readily uptake heavy metals! Don’t forage mushrooms unless you have deep knowledge and pick only where allowed 🙏

Evtim G @evtim.bsky.social · 13/05/2026

No, these are actually inky cap mushrooms, but I pick them young as they are better to cook this way. This is what they look like if I let them get older.
