It appears if you ask A.I. for a retirement strategy, it will suggest you should be Taika Waititi and hook up with Michelle Yeoh. I think it might have the maths a bit wrong, though, as usual.

Conservatives’ latest plan for shifting wealth from young people to property developers, property investors, and downsizing retirees just dropped. Giving people more money that they instantly hand over to already wealthy people doesn’t make housing more affordable, it makes it worse.

NSW legislation defines e-bikes fairly precisely by speed and pedalling action, and practically 95%+ of e-bikes you’ll see in the wild are illegal because there is no legal unregistered motorised bicycle where you’re allowed to accelerate without pedalling past walking pace.
Screenshot from Transport NSW: “An illegal e-bike has any of the following features:
• More than 500W maximum continuous power (more than 250W from 2029)
• A throttle-only (motor without pedalling)
function over 6km/h
• A motor that continues to provide power above 25 km/h.”

I wouldn’t say that “We’re winning” is accurate, but “It’s not working” isn’t accurate either. What we’re doing is working - but we’re not doing it everywhere. If we look at where we’ve intervened the most, emissions are consistently falling. Zooming out to the global scale, we’re not winning… yet.
“Are We Making Progress On Climate Change?
Annual emissions are still rising (slightly)
But...
In the richest countries, they're shrinking
And the global trend is heading the same way”

Two charts show emissions per year (top) and growth in emissions 5 year average (bottom), both split by high income nations and the rest of the world. Bottom chart shows high income nations emissions have been shrinking for 15 years.

No issue with that (so long as we’re taking into consideration the significantly greater externalities of burning petrochemicals), but why focus on the tiny fraction of un-taxed externalities caused by EVs rather than the massive portion of discounted externalities that is business fuel use?

My local Liberal MP continues to embarrass himself arguing on Facebook that the RBA's inflation target is something other than what the RBA says it is. He could get it right by just googling "RBA inflation" and reading the first result. #auspol
Screenshot of the RBA website's page on 'Inflation', with the headline: "We have a flexible inflation target, which aims to keep consumer price inflation between 2 and 3 per cent."Screenshot of a Facebook comment from Graham's local MP: "The RBA looks at “annual trimmed mean inflation” The last time the annual trimmed mean was at or below 2.5% (their target) was the September quarter of 2021. Since then, it has consistently stayed above that 2.5% anchor. What you are looking at is headline inflation which the RBA didn’t use to assess inflation as it includes temporary / unsustainable subsidises like electricity rebates. This temporarily showed negative CPI which was false as the price of electricity had not actually gone down…so the RBA doesn’t rely on this measure."
000
Graham Lea @evolvable.bsky.social · 17/03/2026
It was SO HARD to find out why our inflation is high! Would you believe I had to google the ABS CPI page and READ IT?! 🙀 Answer: Mostly bc electricity rebates since 2023 (when inflation was 6%) delayed price rises. Those ended over the last 12 months, so what people pay for electricity rose 32% 2/2
Screenshot of ABS CPI January report page, reading:

"Electricity

Electricity costs rose 32.2% in the 12 months to January 2026. The annual rise in electricity costs is primarily related to Commonwealth and State Government electricity rebates being used up by households. This is up from a 21.5% rise in the 12 months to December 2025, reflecting households using up the extended Commonwealth Energy Bill Relief Fund (EBRF) rebates this month.

In January 2025, the EBRF rebates were available to all households and State Government electricity rebates were in place for Queensland and Western Australia. Over the year those rebates have been used up leading to higher electricity costs for households.

Excluding the impact of the Commonwealth and State Government electricity rebates over the previous year, electricity prices rose 4.5% in the 12 months to January. This reflects annual price reviews by energy retailers in July 2025.

In monthly terms, electricity costs rose 18.5% in January 2026. The rise this month was driven by households using up the extended EBRF rebates. "
