Two weekends, two walks along the warehouse where the kid has derby practice. Most of these weren't in tire paths, but they'd work their way there over time.

You're not wrong, but the big venue prices are tracking right with your $50 and inflation.

Post of the morning. We're converting our "Dining room" into a craft and art room. Yesterday's task was to paint a wooden bookshelf that has migrated around the country with my family. Know stops include NH, AL, and now GA. It's been in the garage for a while so stain-blocking primer paint is up

We were delighted to see that dragon con featured my friends' Kristin (creator) and Chris (driver) Yip Yip costume in their wrap up email. It is still the best Yip Yip I have ever seen a dragon con.

I probably will not be able to maintain this level of activity but I can certainly improve on what I was doing before.
A chart from apple health showing my step count averages by a week back to November 2025. They average about 3500 per day pretty consistently, except for the last two weeks, which were up in the 15,000 and 18,000 range.

I did buy a brass straight edge because I deserve a souvenir. Sure, a cheap plastic ruler from Office Depot would have been fine, but this one is brass and I got it in Amsterdam.

Many moons ago @czedwards.bsky.social had a post on either her own platform or twitter or somewhere about fountain pens for n00bs. I won't say it CHANGED MY LIFE quote-unquote, but it did alter how I do things. It inspired me to buy the fountain pen shown, a Pilot Varsity Precise.

I bear it rains a lot in the Netherlands. Here are four different days of terrible rain.
Just a ton of rain in de Pyp. Look at it drench the stone fountain (that has no water) in this green park. HUGE RAINSTORM as we cross a ped/bike bridge in Rotterdam yesterday. Nice cable-stay suspension over the Amsterdam-rhine canal. Selfie of me getting SLOSHED by rain. Just devastating. TORRENTIAL downpour near our hotel in Utrecht. I am sitting beachside at 9:30 in the morning at the Hague. It is April. While it is sunny, it's still 50° out, and there are people swimming in the North Sea. Now my crazy ass relatives in Santa Cruz, CA regularly go swimming in the Pacific, but I don't think even they would get into this water.
People swimming in the North Sea at the Hague. Dare I say, crazy people? Apparently not because one of the locals I just talk to you said a couple hundred people come out and swim every day. It's 47°F water temp, but people! Brrr

Are we 100% sure the Wikipedia article on Maduro isn't talking about the US? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicol%C...
Quote from Wikipedia article: "Maduro is widely considered to be leading an authoritarian government characterized by electoral fraud, human rights abuses, corruption, and severe economic hardship. Between 2013 and 2023, Venezuela dropped 42 places in the Press Freedom Index.[19] According to estimations by the United Nations (UN) and Human Rights Watch, under Maduro's administration, more than 20,000 people have been subject to extrajudicial killings and seven million Venezuelans have been forced to flee the country.[20][21][22] The UN Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela concluded that the country's justice system independence has declined; the mission also identified frequent due process violations, including political external interference and the admission of evidence through torture has been alleged.[23][24][25] Many Venezuelan television channels are controlled by the state, and information unfavourable to the government is not covered completely.[26] "

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan pie on a 70° day. I'll be following this up with mashed potatoes, wedge salads, cranberry sauce, and the traditional ribeye steak.
A picture of a cooling chocolate bourbon pecan pie, sitting on a cooling rack in front of a window, looking out over a hillside full of English Ivy and very warm weather for Metro Atlanta.

What to do on a long flight? Screw around with the sliders on Lightroom.
Original image: selfie showing half my face and the cabin aisle on my flight with lots of bored people in their seats. Still in color. Desaturated black and white image with "AI assist" to remove people. Not a particularly good job on this picture given that the people are mostly half people, hidden by seats. Looks like Lightroom added a couple dementors behind me. Same image. Desaturated to black and white. I like this one betterDesaturated black and white with AI background blur. This was pretty good.

My mom died.
Rozanne Lorraine Ruhsam (née Ehardt), 82, of Tulsa, OK passed away the afternoon of September 7, 2025.
She was born on October 31, 1942 in Woodside, NY to Peter and Lucille Ehardt.
We said farewell to our mother this week. As an only child and the childhood tragedy of losing her mother at 8 years of age, her biggest wish was to have a large happy family. And in that she succeeded with four children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
There were many things that brought her happiness. Gardening & cooking were her two of her favorites. She enjoyed being a Scoutmaster for her son’s Boy Scout troop, the first female Scoutmaster in NH. She always helped with whatever sport we were participating in (swimming, baseball). She gave back to the community by working as an EMT. And one of her greatest contributions was providing foster care for numerous kids at risk in New Hampshire.
Rozanne Ruhsam is survived by her husband Bill Ruhsam, her daughters Cindy Ruhsam(John Ryan) and Becky Chapman(Mark) and Sarah Ruhsam, her son Bill Ruhsam(Jenn Bowie) her grandchildren Ben Ryan, Tommy Chapman(Lydia), Greg Chapman(Holly), Elizabeth Hummel(Brock), Will Ryan and Griffin Ruhsam. Great-grandchildren Solomon, Thea, Cole, Elise and Lilah.
She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Mary Ehardt(Blakeley) and her mother Lucille Ehardt(née Nichols).

One nice thing about my job is I can combine things I like, such as pleasant walks with thinking about future infrastructure possibilities.
Boardwalk along the Big Creek Greenway. This area is floodplain so it can be challenging to put trail in while meeting all the flood zone permitting. Boardwalk is one solution.
