lmao this is true. We could literally build an entire new MAX line from scratch with this money instead of giving it to a billionaire.

Someone (not pointing fingers) had edited the Portland City Council Wikipedia page to label Peacock as the majority. This person either has a vested interest in labeling the mod squad as an oppressed minority or is unable to understand that 6/12 is not greater than 50%.

We have our first donors! This PAC has raised nearly $2k already for its stated purpose of supporting centrist local politicians in Washington County who “stay out of geopolitics”. What will they spend it on?

I don't know how I missed this, but Terrence Hayes continues his downward political trajectory by being a featured speaker at Republican and former D4 Portland City Council candidate Ciatta Thompson's campaign launch for state legislature in HD-33.

Reading between the lines on their values statement, it’s very clear that this group of people are wanting progressives and leftists to stop talking about the genocide in Palestine and the wars in Ukraine and Iran.

Why is Oregon worse at this than ALABAMA?!? Oregon's metro area minimum wage is currently $16.30/hour, or around $33,904/year. Oregon's legislators make only $43,440 a year--equivalent to $20.88/hour. That's less than a shift supervisor at a local Starbucks (except it's illegal to accept tips).

These "outdated narratives" that the CEO of Portland Metro Chamber is referring to here were being espoused by him last week, when he called for shutting the Central Library down because the surrounding area was too violent.
"The Trump Administration's disparagement of Portland using outdated narratives hurts, rather than supports, our city's progress. And we have achieved real progress," Portland Metro Chamber CEO Andrew Hoan said in a statement Monday."Radical departure from the status quo--radical departure doesn't mean, 'Ah, we're going to think about doing things, we're going to have some events, we're going to put up a couple festive lights," Hoan said. "Radical means radical; it means doing things completely different from what you're doing...figure out a new path, let's get going. And if you can't do it, I hate to say it, you have to shut the facility down."

In case you were wondering, here's the ad.
An ad with AI art of storytime at a library with children in kevlar vests and helmets alongside a picture of JVP. The captions say "OUR KIDS SHOULDN'T NEED KEVLAR FOR PLAYTIME AT THE LIBRARY. STOP PUTTING OUR KIDS AT RISK. Click HERE to tell Chair Vega Pederson our Library is not a homeless day shelter."

If Kotek is a progressive, what is her signature progressive accomplishment? How has she made life better for working Oregonians? If your political philosophy cannot imagine a better world for us, then you should not be leading the line—against fascism or anywhere.

Thank you @candaceavalos.bsky.social @counciloravalos.bsky.social for bringing up this incredibly important point. Despite 40% of homeless youth identifying as LGBTQ+ compared to less than 10% of the population, the city of Portland has NO resources specifically for the housing of LGBTQ+ youth.
City Councilor Candace Avalos says she would like to see Wilson’s office give additional support to people arriving in their towns of origin. She sees reunification as a tool that can work in certain circumstances. •I do not think we should anchor our policy on it,” she adds, “because I think there’s a broader concept here about reunification that we need to get super clear about: A lot of people, especially those from the LGBTQ community, end up homeless due to being kicked out by their own family.”Prevalence of youth homelessness and LGBTQ+ homelessness

Research has shown that those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ+) have a 120% higher risk of experiencing some form of homelessness.[1] With up to 40% of the 4.2 million youth experiencing homelessness identifying as LGBTQ+[2] while only 9.5% of the U.S. population[3], LGBTQ+ youth disproportionately experience homelessness compared to their straight and cisgender peers. They are also more likely to experience assault, trauma, depression, and suicide when compared to non-LGBTQ+ populations while also being homeless. These statistics are even worse for Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) LGBTQ+ populations who suffer from racial inequities and discrimination.

Washington County has been doing a great job with encouraging more density in its development in the last 15 years. However, it still only has 3 census tracts with a density of over 10k/sq. mi.: the east side of downtown Hillsboro, across the street from Progress Ridge, and Orenco Station's TOD.

The only mass transit systems in the US that are expanding, Seattle and LA, are both planning for this too, with construction or expansion of Line 4 in Seattle and the C and K lines in LA. Portland is already falling behind.

For reference, the BsAs Subte (F and H connecting non-central areas) and the G on the NYC Subway versus TriMet’s bottleneck system where all lines are built to shuttle folks from suburbs to downtown.
