That said, I had so much fun in a D&D game where my DM knew Accurate Boat Stuff and my PC who was supposedly a boater continually mispronounced or misnamed things. "Ah yes, reel in the windsheet and wrap it up on the floor. The boat's swain will be here soon."

I published a video on YouTube today and have been so curious how this one is getting 4x the views but not the normal % of Likes and 0 comments. Sigh. It's the YouTube change in what counts as a "view." How can anyone actually know anything? Literally everything is enshittifying in real time.

They only lost 1 PC in game BUT…we learned afterwards that a miscalculation resulted in a 2nd PC defying death when they shouldn’t have.

Seems like Fatherfog (a mothership hack) would get you a far distance towards that idea if you want.

But I’m never really tempted by the suggestions to A/B test my content, make more shorts, or the flirtation that an AI thumbnail would be so easy to make. I’m making the kind of content that I want to see on YouTube. As soon as I make slop, I’m the problem.

130

everweird @everweird.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

I am often stuck in the loop of seeking validation from the subscriber numbers. I install and uninstall YT Studio from my phone every couple of weeks. (I do the same with bluesky and Reddit.)

020

everweird @everweird.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

I think about how YouTube incentivizes slop ALL THE TIME as I am, I guess, a YouTuber. Once you make a couple of semi-popular videos, the pitches from YouTube start coming and it’s easy to get hooked.

020

everweird @everweird.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

Juan and I are having a little discourse on YouTube slop over here and I had too many thoughts to keep exploding their thread. So more down below…

310

everweird @everweird.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

If you make slop, you validate YouTube’s incentivizing scheme and they incentivize more people to make slop.

020

everweird @everweird.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

You make the videos you want to make and then YouTube incentivizes you to make slop. At that point, creators have a choice: make slop for the views or make good stuff.

120

everweird @everweird.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

That’s a gracious, human-centric perspective that I greatly appreciate. I think the place where your analogy doesn’t work for me is that no one applies for a D&D commenting job at YouTube and YouTube says: here’s how we do it.

110

everweird @everweird.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

But, I mean… we all wanna see what happens when that thing blows, right?

110

everweird @everweird.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

I didn’t mean to blow you up. But your post was right after that one in my feed. It felt serendipitous to read, “This company’s awful” followed by “and their product sucks.”
