Goldenrod and cattails at Hall’s Pond in Brookline. A nice walk around the pond with wooden walkways over the muddy areas. Large carp bedding in the shallows. A sense of an entire universe happening under the water along with the bird calls and insects buzzing.

Sunflowers saluting the morning sun for #FlowersOnFriday. #Nature #Photography #ECK #Scape Sunflowers follow the sun through heliotropism, their flower heads track the Sun’s motion across the sky during the day (turning from east toward west) and then return toward the east at night.☮️💙😎

Row upon row of sunflowers fill the Colby Farm fields every August and September (weather permitting). Sunflowers are native primarily to North and South America, and some species are cultivated as ornamentals for their spectacular size and flower heads and for their edible seeds. The common sunflower is valuable from an economic as well as from an ornamental point of view. The leaves are used as fodder, the flowers yield a yellow dye, and the seeds contain oil and are used for food. The sweet yellow oil obtained by compression of the seeds is considered equal to olive or almond oil for table use. Sunflower oil cake is used for stock and poultry feeding. The oil is also used in soap and paints and as a lubricant. The seeds may be eaten dried, roasted, or ground into nut butter and are common in birdseed mixes.

Oh lovely, Stuart. I am partial to pears. When I was a little girl in the 1950’s, mother made those pear salads with canned pear halves, a dollop of mayo, and a maraschino cherry 🍒 on top! I thought it was the best treat ever.
