I think Calvin is mixed race? So he doesn't actually meet his own criteria of rassenrein

He needs to study history as he seems blissfully unaware that monarchy has never been purely hereditary, royal families died out in the male line, kings were overthrown etc. We had a non hereditary succession in the UK as recently as 1936.

Beat them 6-0 last time we played them in a game marred by racist chants, monkey noises etc which spurred our players on to humiliate their team.

And, as you know, The Small Faces were also signed to Immediate and had to fight for over 30 years to get money owed to them, not least to meet Ronnie's medical bills in the States. Sadly he died before the case was settled.

Eve Ray @everay1.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

His breakthrough didn't happen as he was signed to Immediate Records who folded soon after his debut album was released. His later career was really below the radar. He died in 1993, aged only 47. Largely forgotten but his early stuff is worth seeking out. On the Bomb Site is beautifully poignant

A fairly eclectic mix there - one of them older than me. I only recently discovered Duncan Browne, from a 1968 John Peel show posted on YT. #ftf60s

I'm so very sad to hear of the death of Esther Ranzen who played an important role in reuniting me with Nicky Winton - the man who saved my life. It's so desperately sad that she couldn't choose assisted dying as was her wish.

If law and order mean anything anymore, "Danny Thommo" MUST be arrested and charged with at least some of the several offences he committed last night

Back from holiday and catching up on the #potp episodes I missed. The 1972 chart from 23rd August is wonderful, so many memories. And School's Out remains a banger!

BBC coverage of Piddington was really annoying. Are there not more important things going on? Uncritical coverage of this racism tinged nimby stunt didn't help either. What would they do?

One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries. We are also very good at integration. And it's v sad that this is never acknowledge in debates on immigration.

Those who instrumentalise philosemitism to attack Moslems are not friends of Jews, however many Israeli flags adorn their Twitter accounts. Not Jewish myself but even I could have told Melanie that.

I loved my Sunday walks, I liked the routine I settled into working from home, I loved being able to save several hundred pounds a month. It was only later that I saw the downsides of separation from friends, the activities that never fully recovered, the loss of confidence. Never again I hope

And if we go back further the impact of "bang em up and throw away the key" is even starker. Do we really need to ge jailing twice as many people as we did at the time of the 1990 Strangeways riot?

Building more prisons to solve overcrowding is like the now largely abandoned policy of building new roads to solve traffic congestion. Not expecting any change in policy soon though.

The 1970s are due for a major reevaluation imo. For all but the first 5 and a half months of 1970, the UK had either Tory governments or Labour governments without an effective majority. There was little discernible socialism around (apart from paper sellers!)
