Oh hi. It's my birthday 🙂 I have to say that diving into acrylic painting and book illustration over these last few years has been incredibly rewarding, and I enjoy learning more, painting more, and getting older really is quite great!
Cover illustration for "Fusion Fragment" showing a portrait of a woman facing upwards, as a mirror shatters around her. The mirror shards all show eyes of other women trapped within them. Two mask shards are also falling around her face, inspired by Japanese kabuki masks, representing her mixed heritage. Acrylic painting showing Sauron's defeat by Lúthien and Huan at Tol-in-GaurhothBook interior illustration for "Fangs for Nothing", showing the MC Winnie in a castle hallway. The scene takes inspiration from Gothic horror and Gothic romance movies, from the nightgown design to the candelabra.
A black cat hides behind Winnie's leg, a vampire hides in a dark doorway, and the red candlelight reflects of a suit of armor and several empty painting frames. Acrylic character illustration for a fantasy book commission. The two characters are shown in a sparse, partially destroyed ice palace hall. Both characters have unnaturally pale skin and are clad in black.

Character design can be just you, your two fountain pens, and 27483 button and buckle references.
An open sketchbook showing a rough sketch of a fantasy character, a young woman with long hair, in red and gray ink. Lots of small details of her costume are drawn separately; buckles, belts, buttons, clasps.

It's also the ink that I used for some of the wildfire and tree bark studies. It has a dark red sheen that comes out wherever I layer and crosshatch the most - kinda ominous yet beautiful!
A detail shot of a sketchbook page, showing a rough ink study of a burnt tree, focusing on the bark textures. Drawn with a fountain pen (also pictured) with an extra fine nib, in a dark teal color with a red sheen in its deepest shadows.

Sometimes, instead of glitter and soft colours, I need some DRAMA
a sketchbook page with architecture studies of castles, drawn with a fountain pen and a dark blue-teal ink. The ink bottle is next to the sketchbook: "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Wearingeul. The fountainpen is a Pilot with an extra fine nib.

A book illustration WIP, just before I bring out the rough bristle brush for some very aggressive blending but also detailing...
A half-finished book illustration painted in acrylics on paper, lying on a table together with two brushes and some paint swatches, seen from a top down view. The illustration shows the two main characters surrounded by marble statues and steam rising from a hot spring.

There's just something about ink and pen nibs. In the past (as in, a decade ago) a G-pen nib and the Deleter ink were my go-to tools, but open ink jars really aren't the most practical (🐈) ... so falling down the fountain pen rabbit hole really was just a question of time.

Slowly but surely, I can show bookish art again! NDA who? Here still an early stage of a new cover illustration... love the colour palette! ♥️🖤🤍
a close-up photo of a character illustration, still far from finished, for a book cover. The main character is a young woman with pale skin, gray to nearly white long hair, and wears a red uniform with a black cloak, not distinct to a specific historic setting. Only parts of the watercolour paper are covered in acrylic paint, and the illustration is in its early stages.

Wildfire Remnants Sketched with an EF fountain pen nib for those scribbled textures. The "For Whom the Bell Tolls" ink by Wearingeul is a dark blue-teal, but with an ominous red sheen when layered.

New painting! 💖✨ "The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” — W. B. Yeats
A dreamy digital painting of a woman surrounded by oversized pink and coral tulips, set against a deep blue, star-speckled background. She looks upward with a calm, contemplative expression as the flowers curve around her, creating a surreal, magical atmosphere.

Sometimes, an illustration can change a lot from those first hints of paint to final details...
Photo of a small acrylic painting in process, on a square format watercolour paper pad. Showing a illustration of an elf DnD character, bust/portrait, with just black shadows blocked in.The finished character illustration in full colour: An elf monk portrait. Her hair is long, in a half-updo, and a dark gray colour. Her overall palette is in graytones, her pale skin looking sallow, her slight smile that doesn't reach her eyes. The costume seems to be made from layers of white wrappings, and she holds a ceremonial quarterstaff with a crescent moon shape at the top.

"Gothic Nights" Interior illustration for "Fangs for Nothing", acrylics on watercolor paper.
Acrylic illustration with rough brushwork, showing a castle hallway at night. The protagonist, a young woman with long blonde hair and pale skin wearing an elaborate, Gothic horror-aesthetic night gown, is holding a candelabra. The dark silhouette of a man observes from a doorway and a black cat is curiously following in her footsteps.
