Epistasis and co-adaptation in bacterial genome evolution
Nature Reviews Genetics, Published online: 02 March 2026; doi:10.1038/s41576-026-00941-7Bacterial genome evolution is shaped by epistasis, which can constrain or promote specific evolutionary paths. The authors review how integrating the effects of epistatic interactions into population-scale analyses can improve genotype–phenotype mapping and provide a deeper understanding of the complex traits that shape the microbial world.
