“We did return the jet. Yes, we are out a rough cost of about $200,000 on that purchase of said plane, but as we know — and as we heard loud and clear, and as you've seen — Premier Ford … when he realizes and understands that it's not the right time, or maybe it's not in the best interest of the people of Ontario, that we always do the right thing, and I think that's the hallmark of this government,” added Harris Jr., Ontario’s minister of natural resources, [who] appeared before a different parliamentary committee on Tuesday and faced similar questions, given it was his ministry that officially acquired the jet for the premier’s use.

International Energy Agency predictions of solar energy installations vs. actual.

The chart shows a black line that is "hockey sticking" up with each node on the black line being an annual report from the IEA which features a "prediction" that solar installs will level out, whereas in reality installations have been surging. An International Energy Agency chart showing fossil fuel production by type and average annual change, from 2000 to 2024. The chart shows that although overall oil production is up in that period, the "cheap" oil share - onshore conventional crude, shallow water conventional crude, and deepwater conventional crude - peaked before 2010 and has slowly decreased, while "expensive" oil share - tight oil, and extra-heavy oil and bitumen - has been the area where there has been real growth.

Ahead of the talks’ collapse, the LCBO had started sending U.S. products from its warehouses to stores, in anticipation of being given the greenlight by the Ontario government to start selling them again. This week, industry sources said, the provincial liquor monopoly has begun shipping them back to its warehouses. The LCBO says it typically sells just under $1 billion worth of American products a year.

Most World Cups are remembered for one thing, often something silly – Ronaldo’s pie chart haircut or Zinedine Zidane’s headbutt in the final.

This one will be remembered for Trump gleefully admitting the crime, followed a few hours later by 4-1.

This is the sort of small humiliation that lingers longer in the collective memory than sweeping policy insults. You can’t get people worked up for very long about tariffs. They’re too math-y. But rigging the World Cup? People will never forget you did that, and how badly you screwed it up.

So congratulations America, you’ve really run the table in this one. You were at your best, then your worst, and then your most hilarious.

Thank you for reaching out to share your concerns regarding recent reports of deepfake images generated by the artificial intelligence chatbot Grok on the social media platform X.

I want to be clear: deepfake sexual abuse is violence. Canadians should be able to participate online without fear that their image will be misused or manipulated without consent, particularly women and young people. Platforms and AI developers have a responsibility to take reasonable steps to prevent this kind of harm.

Our government is continuing to advance the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence in Canada. A key part of this work is Bill C-16, which would amend the Criminal Code to clarify that non-consensual deepfake intimate images are treated as intimate images for the purposes of the offence of publication without consent. This legislation would strengthen protections for victims and help ensure that those who misuse these technologies are held accountable.

In addition, the government is working on new online harms legislation focused on improving platform safety and accountability, as well as updated data and privacy protections that would give Canadians more control over how their personal data is used in the digital environment.

... blah blah blah

The rise of right-wing populism, exemplified by figures like Donald Trump, has profoundly altered the political landscape. Trump campaigned on “draining the swamp,” yet his administration became associated with conflicts of interest and self-enrichment. The key insight: his supporters don’t care. In fact, some celebrate his blatant norm-breaking as proof that he is tough enough to fight a rigged system.

Ford has adopted a similar playbook. He presents himself as an anti-establishment fighter who “stops the gravy train,” rails against Ottawa elites and defends the “little guy” — all while doing the opposite and running what opposition parties call a “circular economy” of donations flowing to the PC party and grants returning to wealthy donors. When challenged, he doubles down, hides behind legitimate SDF projects, and insists his government is supporting workers, all while distracting us with carefully planned announcements.Photo of Rob Ford (Red Circle) and Doug Ford (Blue Circle) after the opening ribbon cutting for what was then Trump Tower and is now the St. Regis Toronto building. 3. "Flyvbjerg also point to the peculiar psychology of such politically freighted plans, which is that they tend to blind governments to cheaper and more easily executed alternatives. Such as, in the case of the 401: deploying outstanding east-west GO Bus service on dedicated lanes, which would cost a fraction of the Big Doug and provide some gridlock relief within our lifetimes."
