It's well known that today Australia goes from having 3 main time zones to 5. But one state just went from having 3 time zones within its borders to two: NSW Most of the state advanced from +1000 to +1100, Yancowinna County (Broken Hill) from +0930 to +1030, and Lord Howe Is from +1030 to... +1100

Australia has entered its daylights savings period (not applicable in Queensland) so have to do a whole lot of new calculations for zoom meetings with overseas colleagues, and the watching of football.

Got a Google alert that some of my publications had been recently cited and saw that my citations had now reached over 1000 (according to Google Scholar). As someone who has been in and out of academia many times and in a field (History) which is slower to acquire citations, that's pretty neat.

When I peer review an article, I think it would be good to get a notification when that article is eventually published. I am interested in seeing how the article ended up and curious how much of my feedback the author(s) took on board. Although there are probably some drawbacks to this too...

There must be a German word for the feeling that historians get when they realise that a hard copy source that they used extensively in their past research is now digitised and easily searchable/accessible. Spent so many hours looking through old copies of THES. Now it’s all online!

Moving house and office at same time back in 2023, I finally decided to get rid of all my ‘just in case’ books I’d acquired, mainly because I thought I might need them for teaching. Put them all out in the office corridor to be taken and they all went. I haven’t regretted giving away any of them!
