Prior to #UNOC3 we organised the #MPAConnect conference in the Canary Islands. We brought together key actors from all sectors working on MPAs in the Macaronesia and beyond, to exchange experiences, lessons learned and define priorities for this region.

#UNOC3 highlights this week 🫧This week was a great opportunity to connect, network and witness several commitments from governments and coalitions towards achieving ambitious targets. I’m proud to see #angelsharks as a species highlighted on various occasions! Was it worth the trip? Absolutely!

Just wrapped up a field campaign in the south of Lanzarote with Rubicon Diving, acoustically tagging angelsharks! 📡 This research will help us better understand how angelshark populations use the Lobos corridor and contribute to their conservation #Angelshark #MarineConservation

Feeding sharks ‘junk food’ takes a toll on their health
Many blacktip reef sharks in French Polynesia are commonly fed by tourists. But the low-quality diet is changing the sharks’ behavior and physiology.

Well this explains why Angel sharks are one of the most threatened shark species: genetics show very isolated populations despite neighbouring islands, with deep oceans likely acting as barriers to gene transfer. Means protecting just one population won't work link.springer.com/article/10.1...
