Another iconic symbol of overfishing: bluefin tuna (think million dollar Japanese auctions), is returning to British waters and all populations are rebuilding or doing well. So much better of a story than 10 or 15 years ago.

The main distinction between the AI resignations and pronouncements is that while they say there is a >10% chance AI will wipe us out, there is a 100% chance that emissions from all the fossil fuel reserves that exist on these companies balance sheets will wipe us out.

Hammerhead shark found dead in Florida as death toll grows to 6 in 2026
Some experts suspect human interaction may be a factor as great hammerheads are particularly vulnerable to dying after being caught on a fishing line.

This might be one of the funniest chart about energy scenarios I’ve seen. You can hardly see “actual” for gas
Winners and Losers
The IEA overestimated gas growth in Asia and underestimated solar

Gas
• Forecast 547 TWh
• Actual 17 TWh

Solar
• Forecast 465 TWh
• Actual 1,333 TWh

Note: Shows expected growth in Asian power generation between 2018 and 2025, based on actual 2018 generation, actual 2025 generation, and the 2018 World Energy Outlook's Current Policies Scenario estimates for 2025. Actual 2025 generation figures are from Ember.

A reminder to everyone: while this year's number of shark incidents seems high, it's actually nowhere near the maximum NSW has had historically. In fact, for the last 5 years, shark bite rates have been similar to what they were 20 years ago.
Graph of shark bite numbers across time in NSW, Australia, separated into fatal and injured categories. Both trends are very slightly increasing since year 2000, with the greatest number of bites in 2015.
