In the afternoon, we watched the Sox game and then went to a restaurant downtown (he was driving this whole day so I was the only one drinking hehe), and then we went to Chari's Listening Bar in Bridgeport (might be my fav bar I've been to in the city???).

So the day started with presents in the morning (he got me new sneakers, some stickers, a Cinnamoroll fig and a Pompompurrin plushie), and then we went to the Chicago Botanic Gardens, which is AWESOME (the Model Train Garden whips).

I had such a wonderful birthday weekend. Michael planned out an entire day yesterday and it was just… perfect. I’ve had a rough history with birthdays and, maybe now, I don’t have to dread it so much anymore. 31 trips ‘round the sun ☀️

Yes! Shortly after. Wrecking Ball actually got me into Springsteen after seeing him perform a couple songs on a late night show. My Dad hated Bruce growing up so it took me a bit to make my own taste on him lol

I love that! Yeah, I adore Bruce, I used to have a Pontiac Grand Prix with a 6 CD changer and at one point, all 6 slots were Springsteen lol.

Love these! The Monitor is such a fantastic #1, and like, that’s such an inspired choice of Boss album. But I think there’s a lineage between that two in a way!

On Jacob Geller

I'm aware of the rape allegations against Jacob Geller, as well as the fact that his name is on a court-ordered list of UNC students disciplined for sexual violence. I've hesitated on whether to post anything about it, because the victim hasn’t been identified and I don’t want to participate in a retraumatizing conversation against their wishes. At the same time, as someone who has collaborated with Jacob Geller, I do not want my silence to be taken as endorsement.

For my part, I did not know about this and I wish I had. What justice and repair look like in cases like these are for the victim to decide, and I do not know their wishes or what accountability processes, if any, took place. However, strictly on a personal level, I’m uncomfortable having collaborated with someone who has presented himself as a nonthreatening feminist without ever disclosing his history of sexual violence to me or any other colleagues I’ve spoken to. I have no intention of ever working with Geller again. Beyond that, the person this happened to ought to be the ultimate authority on what happens next, and how they wish to tell their story if at all.

This feeling of craving isolation has felt more intense with all the anti-trans rhetoric in the news over the past couple of years. And I understand that me feeling this way is their point. But I don't really want a big political lesson right now. I'm just tired.

It's not that I really blame the kids. I'm different than what a lot of them are used to. But you know, I'm not up here like, "Hey, I'm Ms. P and I'm trans!" I'm open about it when asked, but that's just who I am, and a vast majority of the time, I don't really want to talk about it.

Idk, it just gets tiring. Years of this and I'm getting a bit worn down. My colleagues treat me different, kids laugh at me or mock me sometimes, and I'm supposed to just let that be water off the duck's back. But I can't always be a duck ya know?

Working in a public school as an openly trans person, I feel this constant pull between wanting to quietly fade into the background of the school community, or being more present, more vocal, and further making it clear that trans adults are an organic part of the world around them.
