When your teenager feels left out, “Just join a club” may sound simple to you and overwhelming to her. Start with what she already enjoys. A shared interest can be an easier place to meet someone new. hartlanepress.com/blog/how-to-... #BookSky #WritingCommunity #TeenGirls #ParentingTeens

You don't have to help your daughter find a whole group of friends. One genuine connection can be a meaningful place to start. A classmate she can sit with. Someone who shares her interests. One person she doesn't have to pretend around. Start small. #BookSky #ParentingTeens #TeenFriendship

If making the first move feels awkward for your teenager, make it smaller. “Want to sit together at lunch?” “Want to work on this together?” Want to walk with me after class? Friendships often start with one ordinary invitation. hartlanepress.com/blog/how-to-help-your-teenager-make-friends/ #BookSky

If your teenage daughter is shy about making the first move, keep it low-pressure. Want to sit together at lunch? Want to study together sometime? Hey, want to hang out after school? Small invitations can be easier than a big “go make friends.” #BookSky #TeenGirls #ParentingTeens #TeenFriendship

“My teenage daughter has no friends. What do I say?” Start with less advice, not more. “You don’t have to figure this out tonight. I’m here.” Sometimes the safest thing to offer is a place where she doesn’t have to pretend she’s fine. hartlanepress.com/blog #BookSky #TeenGirls #ParentingTeens

You can help your teenager make friends without taking over. Help her find places to meet people, then give her room to make the connection herself. hartlanepress.com/blog/how-to-... #BookSky #TeenGirls #ParentingTeens

When “How was school?” gets you “fine,” try a smaller question. “What was the most annoying thing that happened today?” Specific questions can give a teenager somewhere to start. hartlanepress.com/blog/questions-to-ask-your-teenage-daughter/ #TeenGirls #ParentingTeens #MotherDaughter #TeenParenting

You don’t have to make every hard day meaningful. Some days, getting through the day is enough. Drink some water. Put your phone down for a few minutes. Sit somewhere quiet. Let tomorrow be tomorrow. You can start again then. hartlanepress.com #TeenGirls #TeenLife #SelfWorth #Journaling

Say what you noticed, not what you concluded. “You’ve seemed tired this week.” opens a door. “You’re always on your phone and your grades are slipping.” closes it. Sometimes leaving room is the best way to hear what’s really going on. #TeenGirls #ParentingTeens #MotherDaughter #TeenParenting

You don't have to figure out the whole night. If today feels like too much, decide what happens next. Not tomorrow. Not the whole week. Just the next twenty minutes. Put the phone down. Drink some water. Sit somewhere different. Then decide again. — Eva Hartlane #TeenGirls#HardDays hartlanepress.com

When your teenager finally tells you something hard, try this: “Thank you for telling me.” Then stop. You don't have to fill the silence. You don't have to solve it immediately. Sometimes being able to tell you is the thing that matters most. — Eva Hartlane #ParentingTeens #TeenParenting

If you want your teenager to tell you more, try asking about the third thing. Not “Are you okay?” Try: “What was the most annoying thing that happened today?” Big questions often get “fine.” Specific questions give her somewhere to start. — Eva Hartlane

Sometimes your teenager isn't ready to tell you what's wrong. That doesn't always mean she doesn't trust you. Sometimes the best thing you can do is make sure she knows you're still there when she's ready. No fixing. No interrogation. Just: "I'm around if you want me." — Eva Hartlane
