A year after announcing 250 curbside chargers, Boston has delivered 14. @mayorwu.boston.gov | @boston.gov | @streets.boston.gov
The City of Boston is in the process of installing more Level 2 and Level 3 electric vehicle charging stations at various sites, including municipal lots and curbside locations. Once approved by local utilities, the curbside charging station locations will be incorporated into this map.

Their current map shows 14 curbside-charging locations.

If we want mass EV adoption, we have to bridge the gap for renters. When charging becomes a standard amenity rather than a luxury for homeowners, the transition accelerates for everyone. (4/4)

When charging is available where people already park — at the curb, in shared lots, or built into multifamily housing — “garage‑free” EV living becomes normal, not niche. (3/4)

Right‑to‑charge laws, EV‑ready building codes, and curbside charging are the policies that unlock this. They don’t just help early adopters — they open the door for 40 million Americans who rent and rely on street or shared parking. (2/4)

76% of renters in multifamily housing own at least one private vehicle. When EV charging is as convenient for them as it is for homeowners with driveways or garages, tens of millions of people will finally get a real path to electrifying their daily transportation. (1/4)

One owner, Ricky Davis, saved over $1,100 last year. 📉 By shifting his charging to the middle of the night, he didn't just save money—he helped the grid. In 2025, participants shifted enough energy to power 39 Texas homes for an entire year. 🏠

Ford and TXU Energy teamed up for a "Free EV Miles" program, and the results from the first year are wild. ⚡️ By simply plugging in at home during off-peak hours (10 PM to 1 PM), owners are getting a credit on their bill for every bit of electricity used to charge.

Imagine if someone topped off your gas tank for free while you were fast asleep. ⛽️💤 Every morning: 100% full. Every night: $0.00 spent. For some Texas Ford drivers, this isn't a "what if" anymore—it’s a reality! 🧵 (1/4)

EV drivers save about $166/month on gas. That's nearly $2,000 a year and up to $10,000 over a vehicle’s lifetime. Combined with lower maintenance and local incentives, the savings really add up. Find local incentives and see how an EV fits your lifestyle and budget: www.electricforall.org

GE Vernova ordered to finish work on Vineyard Wind project
A US court has ordered GE Vernova to continue work on the nearly complete Vineyard Wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.
by Craig Richard 17 April 2026

The turbine maker had threatened to abandon its partner’s 806MW project by terminating turbine supply and service agreements, claiming it is owed $360 million for work carried out so far.

Justice Krupp of the Suffolk County Superior Court in Boston today (17 April) ordered GE Vernova not to scrap the agreements, ordering that the turbine maker “may not cease or alter performance of its work under the contracts”.

In his order, Justice Krupp wrote that “defects in the massive blades that GE Vernova was responsible for manufacturing and installing” and a subsequent blade failure caused "considerable delays” to the project.

A project engineer – authorised to resolve disputes between the parties – has “determined that GE Vernova is responsible for paying a number of claims by Vineyard Wind totalling more than half a billion dollars”, Justice Krupp wrote.

Vineyard Wind has withheld approximately $300 million from GE Vernova to offset the owed amount, the order read.

Justice Krupp also wrote that Vineyard Wind has demonstrated that it would be “irreparably harmed” if GE Vernova was to not finish commissioning the turbines. All 62 turbines have been installed, but the project is not yet fully commissioned.

“GE Vernova is in a unique position with respect to the Vineyard Wind project. It has unique knowledge and expertise,” he explained, noting that the turbines are "built to GE Vernova's proprietary specifications and operate on GE Vernova's technology".

“The project is at a critical phase and the loss of Vineyard Wind’s principal contractor would set the project back immeasurably and threaten Vineyard Wind’s financing.”

🦞 Maine now tops all states in per‑capita distributed solar with 700 watts per person. ☀️

U.S. distributed solar capacity grows by 6.8 GW in 2025 as Maine leads on per capita basis
A 2025 update from the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) finds that small-scale solar installations accounted for 19% of the 36 GW of total solar capacity added to the national grid last year.

April 15, 2026 Ryan Kennedy

The United States added 6.8 GW of distributed solar capacity in 2025, according to the ILSR update. This distributed segment represents approximately one-fifth of all new solar capacity installed during the year.

California led the nation in new volume by adding 2 GW of distributed solar, followed by New York with 1.2 GW and Maine with 1.1 GW. In several states, including North Dakota, North Carolina, Indiana, Vermont, and Arkansas, all recorded solar growth in 2025 came from distributed sources.

Maine surpassed other states to reach the highest distributed solar saturation in the country with 700 W per person. The state’s growth was driven heavily by community solar, which accounted for 53% of Maine’s total existing solar capacity by the end of 2025. Other states showing significant growth in distributed capacity since 2024 include D.C. at 45%, West Virginia at 30%, and Montana at 27%.

The report identifies 25 states and the District of Columbia as leaders in solar saturation, with each having more than 100 W of distributed solar per person. This level of capacity is sufficient to serve one in every 25 households. The average saturation among these leading states increased from 273 W to 329 W per person over the last year. In Tennessee and Idaho, distributed solar made up over 90% of all new solar growth.

$12k in interconnection fees from a utility stalled this solar + battery project. It’s "Russian Roulette"—you don't know the cost until you've already spent money. These "soft costs" are a major reason why US solar is so pricey, and why Environment America gave zero states an A for permitting.

Interest in electric cars surges around Boston since Iran war started

Demand for electric vehicles around Greater Boston jumped sharply in March as gas prices continued to rise due to the war in Iran.

According to data shared with GBH News by the online car retailer Cars.com, searches for EVs rose by 41% from the end of February to the end of March in the Boston area. The local spike falls in line with national trends, but the company noted that the jump in Boston was more dramatic than other parts of the country. Nationally, users looking at EVs increased 25% on average.

EV sales have also risen recently, though not as significantly, according to Boston-based CarGurus. The online car-seller told GBH News that new EV sales — which have been declining in 2026 due to the loss of federal tax credits last September — are showing signs of leveling off.

“New EV sales are still down year-over-year,” said Kevin Roberts, director of economic and market intelligence at CarGurus. “But the gap is narrowing month over month with gas prices rising.”

In Massachusetts, Roberts said, the year-over-year decline in new EV sales was roughly 63% in February, but only 38% in March. Some of that is because of “normal spring seasonality,” he explained, “but gas prices crossing $4 a gallon are clearly pulling buyers back toward EVs.”

The bigger change, according to Roberts, was a large jump in the sale of used EVs this spring. According to Cargurus’ data, used EV sales flipped positive in March, up 16% year-over-year after being roughly flat in February.
